Angels vs. Rangers TV Coverage: FS1
The Angels have been the better team this season but the Rangers do get Tuesday’s matchup at home, so it could be a competitive showdown. Both teams have struggled lately and are hoping to finish the year on a high note in MLB gambling.
The Angels are 66-70 on the season. They have a positive run-differential on the season but have never been in contention as division mates the Astros, Athletics and Mariners have been better throughout the second half. The Angels were without superstar outfield Mike Trout for a few weeks with a wrist injury, which really dealt a blow to their chances. He is back and should have a huge impact on this one, but Los Angeles is without outfield Justin Upton (concussion) and first baseman Albert Pujols (knee). Pujols’ loss isn’t a big one as he’s basically a replacement-level player at this point in his career, but Upton’s absence won’t help Los Angeles’ chances of pulling out the win.
The Rangers are coming off a blowout win over the Twins but are still only 60-77 on the year. Texas was a perennial contender in recent seasons but is now going through somewhat of a rebuild. The Rangers are putting a lot of youngsters in their lineup, which could pay off down the line but is hurting the team’s chances to win currently. We’ll see if the young players can find some success against the Angels in MLB wagering.
Angels projected starter Andrew Heaney is 8-8 on the season with a 4.09 ERA and a 1.18 WHIP. Heaney has a nice strikeout-to-walk ratio and is fanning nearly a batter per inning. Heaney was fantastic in his most recent starting, allowing no runs and five hits in six innings while striking out seven. Heaney has a chance to put together back-to-back impressive outings in this one. However, he doesn’t have dominant stuff and while the Rangers have some holes in their lineup, they do have dome guys who can deposit missed pitches into the bleachers with ease.
The Rangers will counter with veteran left-hander Mike Minor. He is 10-7 on the season with a 4.33 ERA. Minor is only allowing opposing batters to hit .236 against him, which has been a big help since he is not a huge strikeout artist. Minor is also coming off a nice outing as he gave up two earned runs in six innings last time out against the Dodgers. That followed a great start against the Athletics in which he tossed six shutout innings.
Angels vs. Rangers Picks
The pitching matchup is about even, but the Angels have the superior lineup. Dealing with Trout is never easy, and players like Kole Calhoun and Andrelton Simmons are also solid near the top of the order.
Home field has not been an advantage for the Rangers, as they are only 30-41 there this season. Texas may have a few players left from the playoff teams of old but many of the names on the scene are new ones. Even though both pitchers have been respectable this season, this one could be a high scoring.
The Texas ballpark can give up home runs in bunches and both teams have some thunder in their lineups capable of mashing the ball out of the park. Take the Angels to come away with the road victory while the “over” should be under consideration in MLB gambling.
