Indians vs. Cubs Game 5 TV Coverage: FOX
Jon Lester needs to give his team a pick-me-up in the worst way imaginable. It's obviously that the Cubs are pressing at the dish ( more on that in a second ), and the best way to avoid falling into that trap again is to get a flawless start out of the southpaw.
Lester wasn't good in Game 1 of this series, as he allowed three runs in 5.2 innings of work. However, even dating back into the regular season, he's allowed more than one run just twice since July 24, and he needs another one of these games where he throws seven innings of great baseball, especially with all of the work the bullpen has had to do over the course of the last couple days.
Even though it feels like the sky is falling in the Windy City, at least the team is going to get a shot to go against Trevor Bauer on just three days of rest. We're not sure if Bauer is really ready for this or not, especially with the way his finger has been bothering him these last couple starts. We know he isn't going to be able to swing a bat at all, so he's an easy out in the lineup, and he obviously has to get deeper than 3.2 innings in this one if he wants to help this team close out the World Series.
Bauer has allowed five runs in nine frames here in the second season, and we know that he's going to be on a short leash. We're just not sure what's really going to be available him knowing that Andrew Miller has now been used again and has a lot of tread on those tires here in the Fall Classic. Don't be surprised if Danny Salazar is ready to throw three or four innings in relief in this one if Bauer struggles.
1 – The number of times that the team who has scored first has lost in the ALCS, NLCS and World Series combined.
And that's right, kids. That one was last night. On Saturday, the Cubs just had no answers for the Indians once they got rolling, and that was the first time that any team since the beginning of the month came back from behind in a game to win after allowing the first run of the game.
As far as the Cubs are concerned, they have just one win in the entire postseason after allowing the first run of the game, and not shockingly in those games in which they haven't scored first, they've ended up with at least 10 strikeouts in all but one of those games, that coming last night.
For those who actually watched the game though, you can tell that the same rules apply as in the games with all of those Ks. The Cubs are pressing, and their young batters don't know what to do about it. The end result? Gobs and gobs of swings and misses.

The pressure might seem like it's just too much for the Cubs, but let's not forget that they do have their best pitcher on the mound on regular rest, and we've seen Lester pitch out of big spots like this one in the past. This series isn't over yet, and in spite of the fact that the Chicago – believe it or not – has only won two games at Wrigley Field in the World Series in its history, it'll snare one here in Game 5 to extend this series and put a little bit of fright into the Tribe during the travel day on Halloween.
