NHL best bets for the weekend of March 13-14 feature a number of top teams in action and some excellent NHL betting trends. It is a big slate of NHL games for Saturday, March 13, with 12 games on tap, including two matinees, as the Rangers visit the Bruins, while the Stars are in Columbus. There are a total of six games on Sunday, March 14 and I have four of those games circled as NHL selections. Let’s look at weekend NHL best bets.
Saturday NHL Best Bets
If you have been following the NHL this season then you know that teams are playing within their division exclusively. This has meant that teams are oftentimes playing a set of games against each other. What has been happening in the second game of these series is that the games are lower scoring. We get two such games on Saturday.
Vegas Golden Knights at St. Louis Blues
Two teams battling for first place in the West meet in the second half of a back-to-back on Saturday night in St. Louis. These two teams have excellent goaltenders and each can play stifling defense. This game fits into the system and it is a really good matchup for the under. I’ll go under the total with the Knights and Blues.
San Jose Sharks at Anaheim Ducks
The Sharks and Ducks meet in the second half of a back-to-back on Saturday night in Anaheim. This game is not quite like the other one, as neither the Sharks nor the Ducks play a lot of defense, but what has been happening this season is that teams tighten up in the second game of these sets and the scores are lower. I’ll take the Sharks and Ducks under the total.
Winnipeg Jets at Toronto Maple Leafs
One thing we know about Winnipeg and Toronto is that they can each score a lot of goals. The Jets are not going to win many low scoring games and the same can be said about the Leafs. The total on this game will probably be 6.5 but it really doesn’t matter. Seven of the last ten in this series have gone over the total. I’ll go over the total in what should be a shootout on Saturday.
Edmonton Oilers at Vancouver Canucks
If you are going to bet on the Oilers then it is best to do it when they are on the road. They have a far better record on the road, as they were 8-3 in their first 11 road games. The Canucks are nothing special at home, going 8-6-2 in their first 16 home games. I’ll take the Oilers in this one.
Sunday NHL Best Bets
Dallas Stars at Columbus Blue Jackets
We get two more games of back-to-back situations on Sunday, as Dallas visits Columbus, while the Islanders are at the Devils. The Stars and Blue Jackets are defensive teams that can struggle at times to score goals. We’ll take this system play and bet the under.
New York Islanders at New Jersey Devils
The Islanders are one of the best defensive teams in the league and New Jersey isn’t scoring many goals. This is a system play, as it is the second half of a back-to-back and it already looked like an under.
Arizona Coyotes at Minnesota Wild
The Wild will be favored in this matinee on Sunday and I think the Coyotes are a live dog. Arizona has played well on the road this season and they have crept back into the race in the West. This is a huge game for Arizona and one they need to win. I’ll take the Coyotes at plus money.
Carolina Hurricanes at Detroit Red Wings
The Hurricanes have been one of the surprise teams early in the season and they are in a solid position to make the playoffs. One thing the Hurricanes need to keep doing is beating teams like Detroit. Carolina has done well at Detroit recently, winning 7 of the last 10 meetings. There is no reason to think anything will be different on Sunday, so I will lay the price and take the Hurricanes.
