The PGA Tour heads to TPC River Highlands this week for the Travelers Championship. It is another outstanding field, with the top 10 in the latest FedExCup standings in the field. The top five in the Official World Golf Rankings are all expected to play this week, making this the best field in the history of the Travelers Championship. Rory McIlroy, Justin Thomas and Bryson DeChambeau are co-favorites at odds of 12/1. I am coming off a very nice week with the picks at the RBC Heritage, as I hit Webb Simpson as the winner at odds of 28-1 and I nearly hit Abraham Ancer winning at 55-1. Let’s look at this week’s Travelers Championship and golf picks.

Course: TPC River Highlands

This week’s course is another Pete Dye design and it is the second-shortest course on the PGA Tour. It is a par 70 that measures 6,841 yards. Short hitters can compete on this course, but long hitters can win, as Bubba Watson has proven in the past.

Defending Champion: Chez Reavie

Favorites

McIlroy, Thomas, DeChambeau 11/1

McIlroy has been the favorite the past few weeks and disappointed. Rory is still capable of winning, but I am not taking him at these odds.  Thomas is also overvalued at this number and DeChambeau has become the hot pick each week and I don’t like taking popular picks that often.

Value Plays

Webb Simpson 18/1

I rarely take players to win on back-to-back weeks, but Webb won last week and he could have played even better. This course suits his game and it would not surprise me at all to see him be in the mix again this week. We don’t get 28/1, but I’ll still take him at 18/1.

Paul Casey 28/1

This will be the first event for Casey who has not played the past two weeks, but he has the right style to win on this course. He has finished fifth or better in this event the past three years. He is usually very accurate and accuracy is a big key on this course. I think Casey has some value at this number.

Collin Morikawa 33/1

It seems like the entire world was on Morikawa last week and he simply didn’t play well. I am also very leery when everyone is on a golfer to win and it seemed last week Morikawa was the hot pick. I expect him to play better this week and we get more value than we did a week ago.

Sergio Garcia 40/1

Sergio played well in his return last week, but his putter was cold in the final round and he couldn’t get close enough to challenge. He was actually the best in the field last week in Tee-to-Green, but he missed five putts inside five feet. If he can get his putter straightened out he might just win this week and we get him at big odds.

Max Homa 125/1

We have a little extra money to play with after last week’s win, so we’ll throw a small flyer on Homa at big odds. Did you know that Homa was in the top 10 last week in driving, approach and tee-to-green?  He has putted well in the past on poa greens and there is no reason to think he can’t do well this week. I will take him as my big bomb this week.
