The Scottish Championship will not have many top players this week, as the CJ Cup at Shadow Creek in Las Vegas has the marquee field. The Scottish Championship will have Lee Westwood, Marc Warren and Rookie of the Year Robert MacIntyre in the field, but it is Matt Wallace who is listed as the favorite at odds of 11-1. There are seven players listed with odds of 20-1 or less this week. Let’s look at Scottish Open Championship odds and picks.

Course: Torrance Course at Fairmont St Andrews

This course has hosted the Scottish Senior Open in the past and is also one of the Open Qualifying sites. The course is located on the cliffs overlooking St Andrews Bay and was named after Sam Torrance, one of the co-designers. The course has a links feel with thick rough on a flat layout.

Favorite

Matt Wallace 10-1

You should know by now that I don’t like taking favorites and I am not backing Wallace at this price. He may contend, but I can’t take him at these odds, even against a relatively weak field.

Value Plays

Eddie Pepperell 14-1

You have to give Pepperell a look this week, as he is coming off consecutive top 10 finishes. He played well at the Scottish Open and we know that he likes playing in the wind. I would prefer to be getting odds of more than 20-1, but this field is so weak that Pepperell is one of the favorites.

Robert MacIntyre 16-1

I can say almost the exact same thing that I said about Pepperell when it comes to MacIntyre. He likes playing tough courses and he played well in the Scottish Open a couple of weeks ago. He is definitely capable of contending against this field and although I would prefer to be getting odds of 20-1 or more, we take what we can get in this field.

Connor Syme 28-1

Syme played well in the UK Swing with three straight Top 10 finishes. He qualified for the U.S. Open and missed the cut, but a lot of players had trouble at Winged Foot. Syme is good at hitting the ball straight and he usually plays well in the wind. I expect Syme to be a top player on the European Tour and this is a good week for Syme to get a win. I’ll take Syme at odds of 28-1.

Marc Warren 45-1

Warren won the Austrian Open in July and he finished fourth in an event a couple of weeks ago. He comes in confident and playing well. “To have two tournaments in three weeks in Scotland is great, and I always enjoy going to St Andrews.” Warren said to the media, “I’ve stayed at Fairmont St Andrews a few times and played The Open Qualifying a couple of years ago on the Torrance Course. It’s a great layout, tough if the wind gets up. It will be a good test, especially at this time of year.” Against this field, Warren is capable of contending and we get him at attractive odds of 45-1.
