Rocket Mortgage Classic Matchups and Predictions
Bryson DeChambeau and Webb Simpson headline the field for this week’s Rocket Mortgage Classic in Detroit. Let's look at this week’s Rocket Mortgage Classic matchups and golf picks.

Bryson DeChambeau and Webb Simpson headline the field for this week’s Rocket Mortgage Classic in Detroit. DeChambeau has been the most consistent player on the PGA Tour since action return a few weeks ago, but he has yet to win, while Simpson won two weeks ago. Before the PGA Tour went on break due to the virus I was rolling with the matchups with wins almost every week. It has not gone nearly as well in the return with middling weeks the first couple of events and last week it was ugly. I’ll look to turn things around with this week’s Rocket Mortgage Classic matchups and golf picks.

Venue: Detroit Golf Club (North)

Defending Champion: Nate Lashley

TV Coverage: CBS and Golf Channel

Golf Matchup Picks

Bryson DeChambeau -165 vs. Tyrrell Hatton

DeChambeau is not one of my favorite players, but it is hard to ignore what he is doing right now. He has been in the mix for the win in each of the last three weeks. I am not sure why the love affair with Hatton that everyone seems to have this week. I know he did well at Harbour Town, but since when has Hatton been consistent? He is just as likely to miss the cut as to contend. I will take DeChambeau in this matchup.

Matthew Wolff -125 vs. Joseph Bramlett

This play is all about class, as Wolff has shown he can play with the best players in the world, while Bramlett has yet to prove anything. I will lay the small price and take Wolff in this matchup.

Jason Day -125 vs. Brian Harman

This is a bit or a roll of the dice on Day, as he can come up with a sore back at any moment. He has the game to contend in any tournament he enters if he is healthy and focused. I think we’ll know the outcome of this matchup by the weekend, as Day will either be in contention for the win or miss the cut. I’ll go with him contending and take him in this matchup against Harman.

Brandt Snedeker -125 vs. Kevin Kisner

We know that Snedeker can putt and he tied for 5th in this event in its first year. He looked better last week at TPC River Highlands and I expect him to play well this week. I have no idea what to expect out of Kisner who has not looked good since the return. I will take Snedeker in this matchup.

Sungjae Im -130 vs. Rickie Fowler

I think Fowler could be a player to go against this week. He has yet to look good in the return and now he faces the added pressure of playing in his sponsor’s event. Im has been one of the most consistent players on the PGA Tour and I expect him to contend this week.

Patrick Reed -115 vs. Viktor Hovland

Reed tied for 5th in this event a year ago and he finally seemed to get his putter going last week. I know that Hovland played well last week, but I am still not entirely sold on him. I know that Reed is a top player and we get him at pretty much a pick in this matchup.

The Rocket Mortgage Classic is scheduled for July 2-5.  Detroit Golf Club will host the event and CBS and Golf Channel will televise it.
