The European Tour stays in Austria this week for the Euram Bank Open and once again it is Joost Luiten listed as the favorite. Luiten disappointed last week as the betting favorite, finishing in 18th place. This event is once again a combined European Tour and Challenge Tour event, so the field is weak. Let’s look at this week’s Euram Bank Open and golf picks.

Course: Golf Club Adamstal

This course is a par 70 that measures 6,476 yards and is located in Ramsau, Austria. This is a short course and the winning scores in the last two years in this event on the Challenge Tour were 17-under and 18-under. There are five par 3’s on the course and three par 5’s.  Accuracy off the tee is the most important consideration to look at for this week.

Defending Champion: Calum Hill

Favorite

Joost Luiten 9-2

I got what I deserved last week when I backed Luiten as the favorite. I say almost every week how much I despise taking favorites in golf and yet I did it last week with Luiten. I am not making that mistake again. He may very well win, as this field is really poor, but I am not backing him.

Value Plays

Francesco Laporta 33-1

We know that Laporta can win on the Challenge Tour, as he has two wins on that Tour and this is a perfect spot for his first European Tour win.  He is very accurate off the tee and he played well on Sunday last week, shooting a 69. He has played pretty well at Adamstal in the past with an 11th place and a 38th place finish. I’ll take him at odds of 33-1.

Bernd Ritthammer 40-1

Ritthammer played the Austria Open last week and finished in the top 20. He has won three times on the Challenge Tour and he has played well at Adamstal in the past with an eighth place finish. This field is weak and there is no reason Ritthammer can’t be in the mix and we get him at odds of 40-1.

Oliver Lindell 50-1

Lindell is just 21 years old, but he is already making his mark. He finished fourth last year in this event and he shook off the rust last week with a 25th place finish. We get some attractive odds of 50-1 and in this field he can contend.

Daan Huizing 58-1

Huizing has won twice on the Challenge Tour and he is coming off a top 25 finish last week. He has played Adamstal in the past with a couple of Top 50 finishes. Why not another big longshot win on the European Tour this week?

Gregory Bourdy 60-1

I went with Bourdy as a big longshot last week and he didn’t play that well but he showed some signs on Sunday with a closing 67. He has won four times on the European Tour in the past and we know that he likes these short courses that demand accuracy. I would have preferred to be getting 100-1 or more on Bourdy, but the field is so weak that oddsmakers are not giving huge odds on a player like Bourdy, especially after what happened last week when Marc Warren won at huge odds.
