The UK Swing on the European Tour continues this week with Andy Sullivan and Joost Luiten listed as co-favorites at odds of 11-1. The European Tour has been really cautious in their return, as they have stuck to events in England. That will continue to be the case for the rest of this month. The normal contingent of European Tour players is in the field this week, with eight players listed at odds of 22-1 or less. Let’s look at this week’s Celtic Classic and golf picks.

Course: Celtic Manor Resort

Celtic Manor has been seen before, as it hosted the Ryder Cup in the past and it has hosted the Welsh Open a number of times.

Andy Sullivan and Joost Luiten 11-1

You should know by now that I don’t take many favorites and I am not backing Sullivan or Luiten this week. If I was going to back one of them then it would be Sullivan, but I need a lot more than 11-1 to make a play on a player who rarely wins. I know that Sullivan won last week at the English Championship and he was very impressive, but it had been five years since his last victory.

Value Plays

Thomas Pieters 18-1

Pieters would normally be listed as the favorite against this type of field, but he has not played since the restart. You never really know how a player is going to do coming off a layoff.  Pieters has shown in the past that he knows how to win tournaments, winning four times on the European Tour. I know there is concern about the layoff, but Pieters on talent is better than the bulk of this field and we get him at odds of nearly 20-1.

Ross Fisher 35-1

I am a little bit surprised that Fisher is listed at odds this high. Fisher is playing in his home country and there is no reason he can’t be in the mix. Fisher is in the Top 35 in the latest Race to Dubai rankings. Fisher is capable of getting hot with the putter and getting into contention and we get a little bit of value on him this week at this number.

Min Woo Lee 40-1

Last week Lee finished in a tie for 6th so we know that he comes in playing well. Lee is capable of taking the next step forward and winning and we get him at attractive odds of 40-1 this week.

Alexander Levy 66-1

Levy really struggled last season making the cut in only seven of his 25 starts. He is playing better this year and keep in mind that he is only 30 years old. He has already won five times on the European Tour. He is capable of winning tournaments and there are signs he is getting it all together. He played well at the Hero Open and his putting stroke looked better. If Levy gets back to playing like he once did then he is a superb value at odds of 66-1.
