Live golf made it back last week with Rory McIlroy and Dustin Johnson defeating Rickie Fowler and Matthew Wolff in a very exciting match for charity. We get another match for charity this week, as Tiger Woods and Peyton Manning take on Phil Mickelson and Tom Brady in Capital One’s The Match: Champions for Charity on Sunday. Coverage will start at 2 p.m. Eastern Time, with the match beginning at 3 p.m. Live coverage will be shown on TNT, TBS, truTV and HLN. Brian Anderson will be the host for the coverage with commentary from Charles Barkley and Trevor Immelman. The two on-course reporters will be Amanda Balionis and Justin Thomas. Woods, Brady, Manning and Mickelson will each wear microphones throughout the match, so expect a lot of banter back and forth.
Let’s look at the match, golf betting odds, including golf props and golf predictions.
Golf Betting Odds
Tiger Woods/Peyton Manning -190
Phil Mickelson/Tom Brady +160
The teams will play Four-Ball or what is commonly referred to as Best Ball on the first nine holes and a Modified Alternate Shot format on the back nine. In the Best Ball, Manning and Brady will be given a three stroke handicap, one shot each on a par 3, par 4 and par 5 that will be determined by the committee. The back nine should be interesting, as teams will play alternate shots from the best drive. If the event ends up tied, the match will go to a short hole of 100-125 yards for the 18th green.

This event will be held at the Medalist Golf Club in Hobe Sound, Florida. It is a course that Tiger Woods knows very well, so Woods should have the advantage in this event. Tiger and Phil played a match in 2018 and it was Phil winning in extra holes. The quality of the golf in that event was not very good and it may not be any better this time around. What should be different, however, is the banter. Manning and Brady are known as trash talkers so this should be entertaining.
The question in this event that will make the difference is who is better at golf between Manning and Brady. Manning is said to have a 6 handicap, while Brady has an 8 handicap. Manning has also played with Woods in the past, as the two teamed up in 2005 in the Bay Hill Pro-Am and in 2009 at the Quail Hollow Championship. Brady is definitely not a bad golfer, as he is a member of the The Country Club at Brookline in Massachusetts and a member at the Seminole Golf Club in Florida.
The odds on this match have Woods and Manning listed as about a 2-1 favorite. I can’t make much of a case for taking Mickelson and Brady. Woods is still considered a better golfer than Mickelson at this point in their careers, while Manning is a better golfer than Brady. The edge Woods has over Mickelson is not that much and Manning is not that much better than Brady, but there is no question the edge has to go to Woods and Manning. The odds seem about right at -190, but I think two things give Woods and Manning an even bigger edge. First, Woods is going to want revenge for losing to Mickelson last time out and when Tiger is motivated there are few players better. Second, Tiger is playing at a course that you could almost call his home course and he will have a big advantage in terms of how to play the course. I think his knowledge of the course and the greens will give his team a big edge.
I will lay the price and take Woods and Manning to win this event.
