The Florida Swing continues this week with the Arnold Palmer Invitational where Rory McIlroy is listed as the favorite. Rory has made five starts this season on the PGA Tour and finished in the top five every time. Rory is listed as the 9-2 favorite, while Tommy Fleetwood is the second choice at odds of 12-1. There is a lot of value this week as players like Brooks Koepka and Patrick Reed are listed at odds of 25-1. Let’s look at the Arnold Palmer Invitational that begins on Thursday and golf picks.

Factors to Consider

Bay Hill can be a tough course, but it is also a course where players can score if the wind is down. Last year was tough, as Francesco Molinari won with a -12 score, but two years ago Rory McIlroy shot -18 under par. There is no particular formula for winning, as long and short hitters have both won. One thing to consider is putting, as the winner almost always gets hot for more than one round with the putter.

Favorite

Rory McIlroy 9-2

I sound like a broken record when it comes to talking about the favorite each week. Favorites in golf betting simply don’t win that often and they definitely don’t win often enough to bet on them. That being said, McIlroy is the best player in the field and he is very capable of winning this week, but I am not taking him at this price.

Value Plays

Xander Schauffele 20-1

Schauffele has finished in the top 10 in four of his last seven events. He is 12th on the PGA Tour in birdie average and he ranks 7th in scoring average. I think Schauffele has some value at odds of 20-1.

Patrick Reed 25-1

There is no question that Reed is playing at a very high level right now and there is no reason he can’t win again this week. He ranks 3rd on the PGA Tour in Shots Gained: Putting. It always helps when Reed is playing with motivation and we don’t know his motivation this week, but we do know he is putting well and he has value at these odds.

Justin Rose 40-1

I can’t ignore Justin Rose at these odds. I can’t remember the last time Rose was listed at odds this high. I know he hasn’t been in the mix a lot lately, but this is simply a price play, as can’t see Rose going off at these odds.

Matthew Fitzpatrick 40-1

Fitzpatrick played well in this event a year ago and nearly won. He is still looking for his first PGA Tour win, but players are getting their first win on a regular basis of late, as last week it was Im and two weeks ago it was Hovland. Why not Fitzpatrick this week?

Kevin Na 80-1

The next two plays are longshots that are based on putting stats. Na ranks 6th on the PGA Tour in Shots Gained: Putting. Every so often Na will show up and have a chance to win and it might just be this week.

Wyndham Clark 80-1

Clark ranks 12th on the PGA Tour in Shots Gained: Putting and he has been showing up on leaderboards this season. I think he can be in the mix this week at longshot odds.
