A strong field is set to tee it up at Bay Hill this week with five of the top 10 in the latest world golf rankings expected to play. Rory McIlroy is the top choice to win this week, but there are a lot of golfers to consider. The great run ended last week with a 3-3 with the matchups at the Honda Classic, but if break even is the worst we do we’ll take it and don’t forget we went 5-1 with the matchups last week on the European Tour. Let’s look at the matchup odds and picks for this week’s Arnold Palmer Invitational.

Defending Champion: Francesco Molinari

Picks

Rory McIlroy -200 vs. Tommy Fleetwood

There is not much doubt right now who the top player in the world is. Rory has finished in the top five in each of his last five starts. He also has a win, a tie for 4th and a tie for 6th at Bay Hill since 2017. I don’t know that Fleetwood can put last week’s failure behind him quickly, so I will lay the price and take McIlroy in this matchup.

Jason Day -115 vs. Brooks Koepka

What in the world is wrong with Koepka?  He was awful last week and he has looked nothing like a top golfer recently. I think he is still having trouble coming back from injury and I want no part of him until he shows he is back in top form. Day is always an injury risk, but when he is out there he is usually pretty good. He won this event in 2016 and he is playing well, as he tied for 4th at Pebble last month. I will take Day in this matchup.

Patrick Reed -120 vs. Brooks Koepka

I am going against Koepka again in this matchup. Reed is playing as well as anyone in the world right now and there is no telling when Koepka is going to get his game together. I will take Reed in this matchup.

Xander Schauffele -115 vs. Adam Scott

I like Adam Scott’s game, but I think Schauffele is poised for a big week. He is second on the PGA Tour in Strokes Gained: Tee-to-Green and he is seventh in adjusted scoring. He has three top 25 finishes in his last three starts. Scott finished in a tie for third in this event in 2014 and the tied for 12th in 2016. This is more of a play on Schauffele than against Scott.

Patrick Reed -115 vs. Sungjae Im

I like to go against winners of the previous week in the matchups and that is what I will do in this one. Reed tied for 7th in this event in 2018 and he is coming off a win in Mexico.  I just don’t know how Im doesn’t have a letdown after last week, so I will take Reed in this matchup.
