This column is going against the grain and in the NFL, going against the public is normally successful. We went 3-3 with the plays in Week 5 to take the record to 12-10 on the season. Let's look at Week 6 Against the Grain Picks.
When you bet the NFL, it is easy to go along with the crowd and the popular plays each week. The problem with doing that is that you are not going to consistently make money. There are a number of popular plays each week in the NFL and we are going to be going against those plays. This column is going against the grain and in the NFL, going against the public is normally successful. We went 3-3 with the plays in Week 5 to take the record to 12-10 on the season. The public has had a pretty good start to the season and they are feeling very confident this week so we have a laundry list of plays, as we go against the public. Let’s look at Week 6 Against the Grain Picks.
Week 6 Against the Grain Picks
Houston Texans +3 at Tennessee Titans
The public always remembers what they saw last and they last saw the Titans routing the Bills on Tuesday night. This line seems short considering how good Tennessee looked and the public is falling right into what could be an oddsmakers trap. We will go against the public and take the Texans plus the points.
Indianapolis Colts -8 vs. Cincinnati Bengals
I said last week that we were getting some unusual plays by the public but in both cases last week when we went against the public in those plays, we won. This is another one, as the public likes the Bengals plus the points. We’ll lay the points and take the Colts.
Atlanta Falcons +3.5 at Minnesota Vikings
This one is no surprise, as the public wants nothing to do with the Falcons. This is another one where the line seems short. We go against the public and take Atlanta plus the points.
New York Giants -2.5 vs. Washington Football Team
These are two bad teams and the public is taking the points with Washington. We’ll go against the grain and lay the points with the Giants.
Philadelphia Eagles +7.5 vs. Baltimore Ravens
This one is not a surprise, as the public loves betting Baltimore and Philadelphia has not looked good this season. We go against the public and take the Eagles as the home dog.
Jacksonville Jaguars +3.5 vs. Detroit Lions
I am not sure what to make of this game or this line. The Lions as road favorites seems really odd and it is strange the public is backing Detroit. We don’t argue with the plays, as we simply go against the public and in this case that means taking the points with the Jaguars.
New England Patriots -9.5 vs. Denver Broncos
The public is actually backing the Broncos plus the points on the road at the Patriots. This is another strange one, but as I said earlier, the strange plays won last week. We’ll lay the points with the Patriots.
New York Jets +9.5 at Miami Dolphins
This one is not strange, as the public has been betting against the Jets on a weekly basis. There is nothing to like about New York so that means we take the Jets plus the points as we go against the grain.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers +2.5 vs. Green Bay Packers
The public loves the unbeaten Packers on Sunday, even against a tough opponent in Tampa Bay. It is not often that Tom Brady is getting points, but that is the case in this one. The public doesn’t care, as they are all over Green Bay. We’ll go against the public and take the Bucs.
San Francisco 49ers +3.5 vs. Los Angeles Rams
The public doesn’t like the 49ers and I totally understand why. The 49ers are banged up and they have a quarterback in Jimmy Garoppolo who looks like he can’t throw on his rehabilitated ankle. The Rams are the better team, but we go against the public and take the 49ers.
Buffalo Bills +3.5 vs. Kansas City Chiefs
The public loves the Chiefs and they didn’t like what they saw from the Bills on Tuesday. This one is really no surprise, as the public is laying the points and taking Kansas City. That means we take the points with the Bills.
