The NBA playoffs begin on Saturday with four games including the Minnesota Timberwolves at the Memphis Grizzlies on ESPN. This weekend's NBA Playoff action includes a total of eight games, with all eight on national television. ABC has two games, while ESPN and TNT have three games each. The ABC game on Saturday has the Denver Nuggets at the Golden State Warriors. The other game for ABC is on Sunday, as the Brooklyn Nets visit the Boston Celtics in Game 1 of their Eastern Conference Playoff series. It is a brand new season in terms of NBA picks, so let's get started with some winners.
Saturday NBA Playoff Picks
Utah Jazz at Dallas Mavericks
The first game on Saturday has the Utah Jazz visiting the Dallas Mavericks and the Jazz are listed as a 4.5-point favorite with a total of 210. Most people don't expect Dallas superstar Luka Doncic to play in this game which is why the Jazz are listed as road favorites. I can't tell you how many times everyone overreacts to an injury and the team with the injured player ends up winning the game. The Mavericks are going to go all out to make up for their injured star in Game 1 and they are getting points in this one. Dallas has won the last three at home in this series and I think they have a chance to win Game 1. It is also worth noting that three of the last four, meetings in Dallas, including the last three, have gone under the total. I will take the Mavericks and the game under the total.
Minnesota Timberwolves at Memphis Grizzlies
The Timberwolves won their play-in game so now they face the Grizzlies. This is not a good matchup for Minnesota, as they simply don't win very often against the Grizzlies. Minnesota has lost nine of the last 10 at Memphis and they are a pathetic 1-9 ATS in those games. This series should be a coming out party for the Grizzlies and I expect them to dominate the Timberwolves. I'll lay the 6.5-points and take Memphis in Game 1.
Sunday NBA Playoff Picks
Brooklyn Nets at Boston Celtics
Game 1 between the Nets and Celtics on Sunday figures to be entertaining, as a war of words has already started between the teams. The Celtics are listed as a 4.5-point favorite with a total of 224. The Nets are still considered one of the top contenders to win the NBA title because they have Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, but Boston has a lot of talent and they are very capable of beating Brooklyn in this series. I am tempted to take Boston, but I think the better bet in Game 1 is the total. When these teams meet the games are high scoring, with seven of the last eight going over. I'll go along with the trends and take this game over the total.
Chicago Bulls at Milwaukee Bucks
The Bucks are heavily favored to beat the Bulls in their best-of-seven game series and it is hard to argue, as Milwaukee looks to have all the edges. Milwaukee is listed as a 10-point favorite in Game 1. The interesting part about this series is that if you look close you will see that the Bucks finished just five games in front of Chicago in the standings. The problem for the Bulls is that they don't match up very well with Milwaukee. The Bucks have simply dominated the Bulls in recent meetings, winning 9 of the last 10 meetings. They are also a solid 7-3 ATS in those games. The Bucks have won the last seven meetings at home against the Chicago, but the Bulls have been more competitive, going 4-3 ATS. Normally I like to take the points in the NBA Playoffs, because the favorites are almost always overvalued. In this case though, I have to back the home team because of their series domination. I'll lay the points and take Milwaukee in Game 1.
