Thursday night’s NBA schedule on TNT this week is a bit underwhelming with the first game having the Portland Trail Blazers at the Indiana Pacers, while the late game has the Los Angeles Lakers at the Golden State Warriors. The Blazers are not even in a playoff spot in the Western Conference, while the Pacers have faded to sixth in the Eastern Conference. The late game would have been appealing last year, but not this year, as the Warriors are the worst team in the NBA. Let’s look at both games and Thursday night TNT NBA picks.
Portland Trail Blazers at Indiana Pacers
Opening NBA Odds: Check Back Later
The Trail Blazers are three games out of the last playoff spot in the Western Conference. Not only do the Blazers have to catch Memphis, they also have to hold off New Orleans and San Antonio. They could get some help early next month when Jusuf Nurkic returns from injury. It has been about a year since Nurkic was in the lineup and the Blazers have missed his presence. Portland has been awful on defense and Nurkic should help them with his presence in the middle.
Portland is coming off a home game against Boston on Tuesday. The Blazers are averaging 113 points per game and giving up 115 per contest.
The Pacers have been struggling of late, as they have fallen to sixth in the East. They have not gotten good play lately from Malcolm Brogdon who is really struggling from 3-point range, shooting just 22.7 percent in the last nine games. It could be that Brogdon and Victor Oladipo don’t really complement one another.
Indiana is coming off a home game against Charlotte on Tuesday. The Pacers are averaging 109 points per game and giving up about 108 points per contest.
This series has been dominated by Portland, as they have taken 9 of the last 10, including 139-129 in Portland last month. The teams have split their last ten at Indiana, but the Blazers have won four of the last five.

I will go with the trends and take the Blazers plus the points in this one.
Los Angeles Lakers at Golden State Warriors
Opening NBA Odds: Check Back Later
This game looks like a mismatch, as the Lakers have the top record in the West, while the Warriors have the worst record. The Warriors will be getting Stephen Curry back next month, but Golden State has no reason to win games, as they want to finish with the worst record in the league to ensure the best odds of a good NBA Draft pick. Curry has not played since October 30 and the Warriors have really struggled without him.
“It’s always been March 1,” Curry said to ESPN. “But that for me mostly is just to give you a target. You have to have something to work towards in the rehab process because that gives you a barometer for each week, what you’re building toward. Like I’ve always said, I haven’t had any setbacks along the way. This has been a very long, strenuous rehab process, and it’s something I haven’t been through before, so it’s nice that I’m getting that type of response with every new challenge that I kind of go after.”
The Lakers are coming off a home game against the Pelicans on Tuesday. Los Angeles is averaging about 115 points per game and giving up 107 per contest. The Warriors are coming off a home game against the Kings on Tuesday. Golden State is averaging 106 points per game but giving up 115 per contest.
You can throw out the trends in this one, as this year’s Golden State team is nothing like previous years.
Lakers vs. Warriors Free Picks
I can’t take Golden State, but I hate laying big points. I will avoid a side and just take this game over the total.
