Thursday night’s NBA schedule on TNT features the Brooklyn Nets visiting the Philadelphia 76ers and the Houston Rockets taking on the Golden State Warriors. The 76ers have the best home record in the league at 25-2 and they will be favored against a Brooklyn team that is just 9-16 on the road. The late game will have the Rockets laying points against the Warriors. Houston is in 5th place in the Western Conference, while Golden State has the worst record in the league. Let’s look at both games and Thursday night TNT NBA picks.
Brooklyn Nets at Philadelphia 76ers
Opening NBA Odds: Check Back Later
The Nets come out of the All-Star break in 7th place. Brooklyn is two games in front of Orlando for 8th place, so it is all about staying ahead of the Magic so that the Nets avoid having to play Milwaukee in the first round of the NBA playoffs. The Nets are six games behind Indiana for 6th place so it seems unlikely they will rise in the standings and they are five games ahead of Washington who is in 9th place, so it is all about staying in 7th place.
Brooklyn has won six of their last eight, so they come in playing well, but they may have lost their momentum with the break. The Nets also have to deal with what to do with Kyrie Irving. He has been out of late with an injury, but he could return on Thursday. The question is whether or not they really need him. Irving has played 20 games and Brooklyn is 8-12 in those games. Brooklyn is averaging 110.5 points per game and giving up 111 per contest.
The 76ers are in 5th place in the East. They are just behind Miami for 4th place and just in front of Indiana for 6th place. The most likely scenario has Miami and Philadelphia meeting in the playoffs and home court in that series would be huge, as the 76ers have the best home mark in the league. Philadelphia is averaging 108.6 points per game and giving up 106.2 points per contest.
The 76ers have won 7 of the last 10 in this series, with six of the ten going over the total. Philly has also won 7 of the last 10 at home in this series, with six going over, three going under, with one push.
Nets vs. 76ers Free Picks
I sure can’t go against the 76ers at home, but I am leery about laying too many points with them. I will avoid a side and just take the game over the total.
Houston Rockets at Golden State Warriors
Opening NBA Odds: Check Back Later
The late game on TNT on Thursday looks like a mismatch, as the Rockets visit the Warriors. Houston is in 5th place in the West but just 3.5 games out of second place. Houston has gone all-in on using a small ball lineup, as no player on their team is taller than 6’7”. The team is going to shoot a lot of 3-point shots, run and gun and see if they can outscore opponents. Head coach Mike D’Antoni believes his team can win with a smaller lineup. Houston has James Harden who is averaging 35.3 points, 7.3 assists and 6.5 rebounds, per game and they have Russell Westbrook who is capable of getting a triple-double at anytime. The problem for Houston is defending teams that have 7-foot centers like Nikola Jokic and Rudy Gobert. It will be interesting to see if Houston can win in the playoffs with a small ball lineup.
The Warriors have won six of the last ten in this series, with five games going over and five going under. Golden State has won six of the last ten at home in this series, with seven of the ten going under.
Rockets vs. Warriors Free Picks
I want nothing to do with the Warriors right now, so I will lay the points with Houston and also play the game over the total.
