Thursday night’s NBA schedule on TNT features just one game leading into the All-Star break, as the Los Angeles Clippers visit the Boston Celtics. The only other game on Thursday night has the Oklahoma City Thunder visiting the New Orleans Pelicans. In the TNT game, it is a matchup between two of the top teams in the NBA. The Celtics are battling for second place in the Eastern Conference, while the Clippers are battling for second place in the Western Conference. Let’s look at the game between the Clippers and Celtics and we’ll also glance at the game between the Thunder and Pelicans and Thursday night TNT NBA picks.

Clippers vs. Celtics TV Coverage: TNT

The Clippers are just behind the Lakers in the Western Conference standings, but some people believe the Clippers are the team to beat in the West. Los Angeles will get a good test on Thursday night against a Boston team that is 22-5 at home this season. The Celtics are coming off a game in Houston on Tuesday, while the Clippers were in Philadelphia on Tuesday.

The Clippers are averaging 116 points per game and giving up about 110 points per contest. The Celtics are averaging about 113 points per game and giving up about 105 per contest. Boston is 2nd in the league in defense led by guard Marcus Smart. Boston has not had their starting lineup intact much this season, but recently they had everyone on the court together and their lineup of Kemba Walker, Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Gordon Hayward and Smart. Brown is dealing with an ankle injury and he may be rested with the All-Star break coming up.

Key Stats

The Clippers have won 7 of the last 10 in this series, including each of the last four. Six of the last ten have gone over the total. The teams have split their last ten in Boston, with six of the ten going over.

Clippers vs. Celtics Free Picks

As I said yesterday, games leading up to the All-Star break are tricky, as some players just want to get to the break. There is no doubt the Clippers are the better team and they actually had a better travel situation coming from Philly, while Boston had to travel from Houston. I also wonder whether Brown is going to play for Boston. I will take the Clippers to get the road win.

Oklahoma City Thunder at New Orleans Pelicans

Thunder vs. Pelicans TV Coverage: Local

The only other game for Thursday has Oklahoma City visiting New Orleans. The Thunder are battling for 5th place in the West, while the Pelicans are currently out of a playoff spot. The Pelicans got some press when Zion Williamson got into the lineup, but they probably have too much ground to make up to make the playoffs. They have gotten good play this season from a number of players including Lonzo Ball who was a big question mark entering this season. He has taken over the role of point guard and he is looking like a player who can help New Orleans going forward. In the last 20 games, Ball is averaging 14 points, 8.8 assists, and 7.5 rebounds per game.

Oklahoma City is coming off a home game against the Spurs on Tuesday, while the Pelicans were home against Portland on Tuesday. The Thunder are averaging about 110 points per game and giving up about 107 per contest. The Pelicans are averaging 115 points per game and giving up 117 per contest.

Key Stats

The Thunder have won six of the last ten in this series, including each of the last three. Six of those ten went under the total. The teams have split their last ten in New Orleans, with seven of the last ten going over.

Thunder vs. Pelicans Free Picks

I can’t see either of these teams playing much defense in the game before the All-Star game, so I will take the game over the total.
