Thursday night’s NBA schedule on TNT features the two best teams in the NBA. The early game has the Milwaukee Bucks, leaders of the Eastern Conference, hosting the Philadelphia 76ers. The late game has the Los Angeles Lakers, leaders of the Western Conference, hosting the Houston Rockets. The matchups feature a lot of star power, as the 76ers have Joel Embiid, the Bucks have Giannis Antetokounmpo; the Rockets have James Harden, while the Lakers feature LeBron James. Let’s look at both games and Thursday night TNT NBA picks.

76ers vs. Bucks TV Coverage: TNT

The freefalling Philadelphia 76ers visit the Milwaukee Bucks on Thursday night in the first of two games on TNT. The 76ers were expected to be a contender to challenge the Bucks in the East, but right now that is not the case. The 76ers might actually have to start the playoffs on the road the way things are going. Head coach Brett Brown admitted recently that the team has been inconsistent. "We've had an erratic season." Brown said to the media. He said that he looks at the standings and realizes that time is running out. "I quietly pay attention," Brown said, "But if you say what's more important -- looking at the standings and really studying them, versus do you just feel like you're playing good basketball? When I feel good about that, and I don't -- at times I really do, but right now we're not equipped to go into the playoffs in the way we need to go into the playoffs -- that is what I think about more than the standings."

The 76ers have had two days off since playing at Miami on Monday. The 76ers are averaging 108 points per game and giving up 105 per contest. The Bucks are coming off a game in New Orleans on Tuesday. They are averaging 120 points per game and giving up about 107 points per contest.

Key Stats

Milwaukee has won six of the last ten meetings in this series, but the 76ers did win earlier this season at home by a score of 121-109. Seven of the last ten have gone over the total. The Bucks have won 7 of the last 10 at home in this series, with 7 of the 10 going over.

76ers vs. Bucks Free Picks

The 76ers have played poorly on the road for much of this season and there is no reason to think they are going to win in Milwaukee on Thursday. I will lay the points and take the Bucks and also play the game to go over the total.

Houston Rockets at Los Angeles Lakers

Rockets vs. Lakers TV Coverage: TNT

The Rockets are battling for playoff positioning in the West, as they are in 5th place right now, but not that far out of second place. It appears that Houston is thinking they may not have enough to compete for a title this season and ownership wants to shed some salary. Center Clint Capela is on the trading block and the Rockets may move him before Thursday’s trading deadline. The Rockets signed Capela to a 5-year, $90 million dollar deal in 2018. A number of teams have expressed interest in Capela and it appears Houston is willing to trade him. Houston is coming off a home game against Charlotte on Tuesday. The Rockets are averaging about 119 points per game and giving up just over 114 per contest.

The Lakers are coming off a home game against the Spurs on Tuesday. The Lakers are averaging 114 points per game and giving up 107 per contest.

Key Stats

The Rockets have won 7 of the last 10 in this series, but the Lakers have won and covered the past two meetings. 7 of the last 10 in this series have gone over the total. The Rockets have won 8 of the last 10 in Los Angeles, but the Lakers did win 111-106 at home earlier this season. Six of those ten went under the total.

Rockets vs. Lakers Free Picks

The Rockets simply don’t play enough defense to stay with the Lakers. I will lay the points and take Los Angeles and also play the game over the total.
