Baseball picks for this weekend are ready to roll with MLB picks for Saturday, October 1 and Sunday, October 2. I am on a really good roll, going 13-3 over the last three weeks. This weekend’s MLB action features a full slate of games on Saturday, October 1 and Sunday, October 2. There are two regional games on FOX on Saturday, as the Mets visit the Braves and the Rays visit the Astros. The Sunday Night ESPN game has the Mets at the Braves. Let’s look at weekend MLB picks for Saturday, October 1 and Sunday, October 2, including the Sunday Night Baseball game between the Mets and Braves on ESPN.

Saturday MLB Picks

The Red Sox visit the Blue Jays on Saturday in a matinee and the Blue Jays will be solid home favorites. The Red Sox have nothing to play for, while the Blue Jays are looking to clinch the top Wild Card spot. The probable pitching matchup for this game has Brayan Bello going against Ross Stripling, but I don’t really care who either team is throwing, as I think this series is going to be all Blue Jays. Toronto has the perfect chance to take care of business at home and wrap up home field advantage for the Wild Card round and I think they will dominate the Red Sox. I’ll take Toronto on Saturday.

Another team that is looking to take care of business and wrap up a Wild Card spot is Philadelphia. They have a good chance to do so this weekend as they face a bad Washington Nationals team. The probable pitching matchup on Saturday favors the Phillies with Noah Syndergaard going against Anibal Sanchez, but like the previous game, I don’t care who either team throws, as I am taking the Phillies to get the road win.

Sunday MLB Picks

One of my favorite pitchers to back earlier this season was Logan Webb of the Giants and he did not disappoint. He is probably getting his last start of the season on Sunday and I expect him to close things out with a home win against Arizona. This game is definitely one that depends upon the starting pitcher, as I am backing Webb. If he doesn’t go on Sunday then this game is a no play.

The same thing applies to the game between the Rockies and the Dodgers. I think Clayton Kershaw will want to get ready for the postseason with a really good home start and he gets the perfect tonic in facing a bad Colorado team. The Dodgers have long since clinched the division, but they are still playing good baseball and have been very tough to beat at home. If Kershaw is on the mound as expected on Sunday, I will back the Dodgers.

The Sunday Night Baseball game on ESPN has the Mets visiting the Braves. There are some concerns about the weather for this series because of Hurricane Ian, so it is possible there could be a doubleheader on Sunday. The probable pitching matchup as of this writing has Max Scherzer going for New York, while Charlie Morton goes for Atlanta. I would definitely prefer this matchup in particular, because it definitely favors New York. Scherzer has been very good this season for New York, as he comes into this game with an 11-4 record and a 2.13 ERA. Morton is 9-6 with a 4.29 ERA for the Braves. I know that Morton has the ability to pitch well at times, but more often than not this season he has had issues. I don’t know that the Braves can trust him in the playoffs and this series against the Mets is just like a playoff series, as the winning team is probably going to win the NL East, while the losing team has to play in the Wild Card round. I definitely trust Scherzer a lot more than Morton right now. I’ll take the Mets with Scherzer against the Braves and Morton for the last play of the weekend.
