US Open Championship Prediction When: June 15-18, 2017

Where: Erin Hills, Erin, WI

Format: 72 holes - Stroke Play

Purse: $10,000,000

Defending Champion: Dustin Johnson

TV Coverage: FS1, FOX

The 117th edition of the U.S. Open tees off June 15-18, 2017, on a venue that it has never been used: Erin Hills in Erin, Wisconsin. The second of four majors, the U.S. Open is staged at a different course every year, and set up in such a way that scoring is very difficult with a premium placed on accurate driving and deft putting. U.S. Open play is characterized by tight scoring at or around par by the leaders, with the winner usually emerging around even par.

Erin Hills gets its first test as host of the U.S. Open. The course is just outside Milwaukee and hosted the 2011 U.S. Amateur, won by Kelly Kraft. The layout measures a fat 7,823 yards from the tips.

Dustin Johnson won his first major of his career last year by keeping his composure and playing his game to come away with a three-shot win over Jim Furyk, Scott Piercy and Shane Lowry. Johnson played the back nine with a cloud hanging over him of not knowing if he was going to be penalized for something that happened earlier in the round when his ball oscillated while he was getting ready to putt. He didn’t let it faze him and cruised to victory.

The U.S. Open dates back to 1895 and most of the greats in the game have etched their name on the trophy. Bobby Jones remains the only amateur to win the event. Other’s that have won include Walter Hagen, Gene Sarazen, Byron Nelson, Ben Hogan, Arnold Palmer, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus, Lee trevino, Johnny Miller, Hale Irwin, Tom Watson, Raymond Floyd, Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy and Jordan Spieth.
