UFC 145 features light heavyweight champion Jon “Bones” Jones defending his UFC light heavyweight title against former champion and teammate Rashad Evans, which takes place on April 21st from Philips Arena in Atlanta, GA. The card also features a welterweight bout between two of the divisions fast-rising stars, Rory MacDonald and British banger Che Mill. As well, a heavyweight showdown between Brendan Schaub will take on Ben Rothwell and Chad Griggs making his UFC debut against Travis Browne.
The Jones vs. Evans has been the most talked-about grudge match in MMA over the last year is finally going to come together. The two have been feuding since the time they were still teammates, early last year, when Jones stepped in to face then-UFC light heavyweight champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua at UFC 128 in New Jersey. Evans was initially slated to challenge Shogun, but had to drop out due to injury.
Soon after the UFC bout’s conclusion, Evans challenged Jones for his newly minted light heavyweight crown and announced his exodus from their camp with coaches Greg Jackson and Mike Winkeljohn. Evans has since formed the Blackzilians team in Florida and has been training their for his most recent fights. Since then, Evans has picked up two impressive victories over former champion Tito Ortiz and then budding contender Phil Davis, respectively. Asserting himself as the clear-cut No. 1 contender. It's took Evans’ three years to get another crack at the UFC light heavyweight title.
Jones has laid waste to the light heavyweight division over the past couple of years, defeating the likes of Ryan Bader, Mauricio “Shogun” Rua, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Lyoto Machida. With a handful of legitimate contenders left to face, 2012 could be quite a year for the man dubbed “Bones”. Both men are very familiar with each other’s styles, though they remain drastically different fighters. Who will come out on top in this battle?
The event marks UFC’s first time back to Philips Arena, since UFC 88 in 2008, when UFC betting fans watch Rashad Evans knock out UFC legend Chuck Liddell and it also was the first time Rashad Evans marched into Atlanta, he was a sizable underdog trying to make a legacy for himself. When he returns this time, he'll again be a sizable underdog again, this time trying to seal a legacy as a two-time UFC light-heavyweight champion.
