NBA Basketball National TV Weekly Schedule and ATS Predictions

A full slate of nationally televised games dots the slate this week and some of the best in the NBA will be highlighted. The NBA on ESPN starts the week with a collection of some of the best young talent in the game with a doubleheader on Tuesday featuring the Lakers and Knicks followed by the 76ers at Minnesota. Though the teams are looking for a return to glory, the New York-Los Angeles matchup was the best in the league in the early 70s when the clubs met in the Finals three times in four years. The Lakers’ first NBA title since moving to LA LA Land was captured over the Knickerbockers in the 1971-72 season.

The Lakers started their rebuild a few years ago and have a core of young players that will hopefully get the organization back to the playoffs. Brandon Ingram is showing he’s worth the No. 2 overall pick the team used on him last year and has blossomed into the scorer Luke Walton envisioned. The Knicks have made all kinds of changes to their roster over the past few years, but one constant is Kristaps Porzingis, possibly the only thing Phil Jackson did right during his time in the Big Apple. Porzingis is the building block the Knicks need as they look to return to respectability.

The nightcap on Tuesday features Joel Embiid, Ben Simmons and the upstart 76ers tangling with Karl-Anthony Towns, Andrew Wiggins, Jimmy Butler and the Northwest leading Timberwolves. Minnesota brought in Butler to team with his old coach and to give the young team another proven scorer and defender. After winning just 31 games last season, the Wolves are halfway to that total after the first two months of the campaign.

We can’t have a week without at least one of the top teams in the league on display. Golden State will have to work through a stretch of games without Steph Curry after he injured his ankle. That means Kevin Durant will be on full display when the Dubs host the Mavs on Thursday. The NBA on TNT starts the day with LeBron James and the Cavs hosting the Lakers. San Antonio has hung around the top of the Western Conference while it waits for Kawhi Leonard’s quad to heal. The latest has Leonard returning to the lineup in time for the Spurs’ battle with James Harden and the Rockets Friday on ESPN. Oklahoma City has struggled with its new lineup and the Thunder’s Paul George makes his return to Indianapolis on Wednesday. OKC’s road trip also has them taking on the Sixers in the first matchup on Friday’s edition of the NBA on ESPN.

NBA on ESPN Odds – Tuesday, December 12, 2017

Lakers at Knicks / ATS Free Pick

Preview: A pair of young up and coming squads will set the tone in ESPN’s Tuesday night double dip when Brandon Ingram and the Los Angeles Lakers invade the Big Apple to square off against Kristaps Porzingis and the New York Knicks. LA’s in the midst of a momentum driving road trip that’s already seen them pick up a pair of scalps against Philadelphia and Charlotte, so you know Luke Walton will have his troops ready for this battle with a trip to Cleveland looming. Continue...

Spurs vs. Mavericks / ATS Free Pick

Preview: The San Antonio Spurs have made a mockery of their recent Southwest Division rivalry with the Dallas Mavericks in winning nine of the last 10 meetings dating back to the 2015-16 season. They also went on to cover six of those games against the linemakers. The Mavs return home for this one fresh off dropping three straight on the road, while the Spurs will be on extended rest and get the benefit of Kawhi Leonard finally making his 2017-18 debut. Continue...

NBA on ESPN Odds – Wednesday, December 13, 2017

Thunder at Pacers / ATS Free Pick

Preview: One of the best cover teams in the league is set to square off against one of the worst when Russell Westbrook and the disappointing Oklahoma City Thunder invade Bankers Life Fieldhouse looking to run with Victor Oladipo and the surprising Indiana Pacers. This will be the first of a three-game road trip for the Thunder who have fallen three of the last four times they paid a visit to Indianapolis. The Pacers currently sit six games over .500 when at home. Continue...

Hornets at Rockets / ATS Free Pick

Preview: Closing out ESPN’s Wednesday night doubleheader will be the Western Conference best Houston Rockets who will take to their home hardwood in search of an eleventh straight win. Entering the Toyota Center as the sacrificial lambs will be the Charlotte Hornets who’ve struggled to get going, but enter this tilt off pulling the outright in Oklahoma City as decided underdogs. They’ll be out to avenge an ugly pounding at home by the Rockets from late October. Continue...

NBA on TNT Odds – Thursday, December 14, 2017

Lakers at Cavaliers / ATS Free Pick

Preview: Are we done freaking out about the Cleveland Cavaliers poor start to the season yet? If running off 14 wins through 15 tries isn’t enough to calm your nerves, nothing will. LeBron James and the three-time reigning Eastern Conference champs will be out to dish out some tough love to a young Los Angeles Lakers outfit on Thursday night when the team’s do battle under the TNT lights for the first time in the 2017-18 season. Continue...

Mavericks at Warriors / ATS Free Pick

Preview: Closing out TNT’s double dip on Thursday night will be the Western Conference rival Dallas Mavericks and Golden State Warriors. You have to go back to December of the 2015-16 season to find the last time Dirk Nowitzki and the Mavs scored a win over the defending champs. You have to go back all the way to April of 2012 to find the last time they came out victorious at Oracle. It’s safe to say the Dubs likely won’t be in any danger of losing this game. Continue...

NBA on ESPN Odds – Friday, December 15, 2017

Thunder at 76ers / ATS Free Pick

Preview: The Philadelphia 76ers finally stopped the bleeding on Tuesday night after going into Minnesota and coming out with the outright win in overtime. They’ll have a couple days off before they have to lace ‘em up again for a clash on Friday night against Russell Westbrook and his struggling Oklahoma City Thunder teammates. OKC swept Joel Embiid and company last season, and has won each of the last 16 times these franchises squared off. That won’t sit well with the home team. Continue...

Spurs at Rockets / ATS Free Pick

Preview: For all intents and purposes, the Houston Rockets have had an easy run to the top of the Southwest division standings without much of a fuss. They won 21 of their first 25 games heading into Wednesday’s home tilt against Charlotte, and will enter this tilt confidently. That said, this will be the team’s first run-in with the San Antonio Spurs to date and it just so happens to be the second game with Kawhi Leonard back in the starting lineup. Look for him to get a bit more burn this time around. Continue...

NBA Sports Betting Tips

A key factor when handicapping the NBA is doing research about the teams, player and match-ups. When you are making a bet on the NBA look at how the teams are playing, what situation they are in, how they do head to head, and their home and away records.

A couple of more things to think about when betting on the NBA.

Injuries, key players missing can be huge, whether the team is traveling or at home, fan bases (public teams) and where a team is positioned in the standings, when making your NBA bet.

If Stephen Curry is not playing for the Golden State Warriors then it affects the betting line and really makes it hard to bet on the Warriors.

It is usually an effective approach to make out your own basketball lines for the games and compare those to other published lines. Continue
