Gasparilla Bowl Prediction - Owls Vs Golden Panthers Football Odds

NCAA Gasparilla Bowl Betting Odds and Prediction

When: Thursday, December 21, 8 p.m. ET (ESPN)

Where: Tropicana Field, St. Petersburg, FL

Who: Temple Owls vs. Florida International Golden Panthers

Butch Jones took over an embattled FIU football program this year and immediately brought it back to a bowl game. A win in the Gasparilla Bowl will give the Golden Panthers a school-record nine victories this season.

The team was overmatched by UCF to kick off the season, and games against FAU and Middle Tennessee were suspect as well. That said, the Golden Panthers ended their campaign scoring 104 points in games against UMass and Western Kentucky combined, a sure sign that this offense is ready to take on one of the middling teams from a good AAC in Temple.

Frank Nutile was stuck on the bench for the Owls for much of the season, but when he took over, this offense started to really take off.

Temple seemed destined to miss a bowl game this year when it opened up at just 2-3 and 3-5, but the club rallied for wins over Navy, Cincinnati and Tulsa at the end of the campaign to get into a bowl game at 6-6.

The Owls, though, were bad against bowl teams this year, losing to Notre Dame by 33, South Florida by 36, Houston by seven and UCF by 26. The only victory over a strong bowl team was the upset of Navy.

FIU has only won one bowl game in its history, the 2010 Little Caesars Bowl. Temple has actually only won one bowl game since 1979, that coming in the 2011 New Mexico Bowl. Over the course of the last two seasons, the Owls finished off 10-win campaigns with losses in bowl games.

Gasparilla Bowl Prediction - Temple Owls vs. Florida International Golden Panthers

Opening Line: Temple -7

Preview: The Florida International Panthers went 8-4 this season, but they are not getting much respect from the oddsmakers, as they are a touchdown underdog against the Temple Owls in the Gasparilla Bowl on Thursday, December 21 in St. Petersburg, Florida on ESPN. Florida International tied their school record for most wins in a season with eight, while Temple won three of their last four games to finish at 6-6 and become bowl eligible. This will be the first meeting between FIU and Temple. Continue...

NCAA Gasparilla Bowl Betting Tips

One of the first things to look for when examining the college football bowl odds is the current form of the teams. Some teams are coming into the bowl game playing very well, while others are coming in flat or disappointed.

Motivation is a big key factor when it comes to looking at college football bowl betting lines, we also have to look at other things.

Schedule strength, turnovers, recent form, and overall team power ratings are things to consider as the bowl games begin. You also want to take the individual game odds into consideration.

2013 Beef ‘O’ Brady’s St. Petersburg Bowl Champion

East Carolina defeated Ohio 37–20 by scoring 20 points in the fourth quarter.

Vinatavious Cooper rushed for a career-best 198 yards, setting a Beef 'O' Brady's Bowl record and leading East Carolina Pirates to a 37-20 victory over Ohio Buckeyes.

Cooper broke the Beef 'O' Brady's Bowl record for yards rushing while becoming the first East Carolina player to win a MVP award in a bowl game since Tennessee Titans star Chris Johnson ran for 223 yards against Boise State in the 2007 Hawaii Bowl.
