Event: UFC 142: Jose Aldo vs. Chad Mendes
Date: Friday, Dec. 30th, 2011
Time: 9pm ET/6pm PT
Location: MGM Grand Garden Arena - Las Vegas, Nev.
UFC 142 Betting action - Bet on the UFC Brazilian featherweight phenom Jose Aldo, when he get a chance to defend his divisional title in front of a hometown crowd when the UFC returns to the South American hub on January 14, 2012 at the HSBC Arena, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. As expected, Aldo will face undefeated Team Alpha Male representative Chad Mendes.
Aldo and Mendes could be the start of an America vs. Brazil rivalry, as the two will likely be one of numerous pairings involving the clash of nationalities. Both fighters have an interesting clash of styles, as Mendes has relied heavily on his collegiate wrestling background in order to remain undefeated in his professional career, while Aldo has dazzled with his muay thai skills. The winner of this fight will likely determine who will rule the division for the foreseeable future, since between the two, the duo have made victims of most notable opposition along the way.
At Bookmaker Sportsbook UFC challenger chad Mendes, MMA Odds opened at a +180 underdog when he faces off against UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo. As, Aldo comes in as a pretty big favorite at -240.
Aldo hasn't lost in over five years, and his challenger Mendes, has yet to lose in MMA. After clearing out all the contenders put in his way, Chad Mendes believes he has what it takes to beat the champion.
Chad Mendes (11-0 MMA, 2-0 UFC), is a two-time All American collegiate wrestler. In other words, the Alpha Male product is an excellent athlete with the kind of takedowns, takedown defense, and ground control skills that few are able to deal with. What's more, he has quick hands.
In terms of weaknesses, Mendes doesn't have many stoppage victories. In other words, the undefeated fighter doesn't hit particularly hard; nor does he possess upper level submission skills.
For the Brazilian, UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo (20-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC), the bout will mark the first time he has fought in Brazil since 2007. "Scarface" is 20-1 in his career and has won thirteen straight fights including back-to-back decision victories to defend his UFC title against Kenny Florian and Mark Hominick.
Aldo is going to have a tough time at some point with Mendes's wrestling. That said, I think that the Alpha Male product will be unable to stop Aldo. Therefore, every step of the way for five rounds, this fight will start standing where Mendes and his 66 inch reach will be up against a super striker with four inches on him in that department. In other words, I think at some point Aldo connects on his opponent and ends things in front of a feisty hometown crowd.
In addition, super popular Brazilian banger Vitor Belfort (20-9 MMA, 9-4 UFC) will get his chance to show off in front of his native fans, when his takes on Anthony Johnson (10-3 MMA, 7-3 UFC) in his middleweight debut. Also on tap, middleweights Rousimar Palhares (13-3 MMA, 6-2 UFC) vs. Mike Massenzio (13-5 MMA, 2-3 UFC), welterweights Siyar Bahadurzada (20-4-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC) vs. Erick Silva Silva (13-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC), and lightweights Terry Etim (15-3 MMA, 6-3 UFC) vs. Edson Barboza (9-0 MMA, 3-0 UFC). This will be the first PPV after the Fox deal kicks in, and will see all six preliminary fights airing on FX.
