When: June 16th, 2012
Where: Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey
A heavyweight clash between former two division world champion Tomasz Adamek and American “Fast” Eddie Chambers is scheduled for June 16 at Adamek’s home base, the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. The fight is the feature bout of the fourth edition of NBC Sports Network’s nationally televised "Fight Night" boxing series. The TV broadcast will begin at 9PM ET.
This one is really interesting, because both fighters have not exactly been on hot streaks lately. And both fighters have something in common: they have both been badly beaten by one of the world heavyweight champion Klitschko brothers. The competitive 10-round contest pits two former title challengers against each other in an important fight that should move the winner up the heavyweight ladder, and place him closer to a second crack at one of the Klitschko brothers.
Adamek (45-2, 28 KOs) was humiliated by WBC champion Vitali Klitschko last year, suffering a TKO loss in front of a stadium full of fans in Wroclaw, Poland: after the fight, Klitschko remarked that while former cruiserweight king Adamek is a great fighter, he doesn’t belong in the heavyweight division.
Adamek returned to the ring on March 24 with a win over Nagy Aguilera following a bad loss to Vitali Klitschko last September in Poland. Adamek had a bit of ring rust, but eventually took over the fight for good and banged out a solid win against an Aguilera who showed up to pull the upest.
Chambers (36-2, 18 KOs) on the other hand was knocked out by Wladimir Klitschko in a horrifying fashion in Germany in early 2010. Sence then, Chambers has fought exactly once, a unanimous decision win over Derric Rossy in early 2011.
Chambers, was supposed to fight Siarhei Liakhovich in January, but pulled out with an injury, same as he did last October when he was to face Tony Thompson. The 30-year-old American contender matches up nicely on paper with Adamek, as both are similar size and skilled heavyweights who can box. If Chambers somehow doesn’t show up for Adamek, his boxing career will be hanging by a thread.
