Zbik vs Chavez Jr Odds

Sebastian Zbik vs Julio Cesar Chavez Jr

Sebastian Zbik vs Julio Cesar Chavez Jr Odds

What: World Middleweight Championship

Where: Saturday, June 4 at STAPLES Center

When: Live on HBO Boxing After Dark

German middleweight (160 pounds) Sebastian Zbik is the current WBC middleweight title holder. Chavez Jr currently holds the WBC Silver middleweight title which is the equivalent an interim WBC middleweight title. The fight will be televised live on HBO Boxing After Dark, beginning at 10 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on the West Coast).

WBC has elevated "fearless German brawler" Sebastian Zbik (30-0, 10 KOs) to the status of full champion and mandated that Zbik face Chavez (41-0-1, 30 KOs) in his first defense. After 8 years as an unbeaten, highly touted boxing prospect, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. will finally get his shot at the title. On June 4 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, Chavez Jr. will face off against Sebastian Zbik in a battle of the undefeated Middleweights for the WBC title, which was recently removed from Sergio Martinez and handed down to Zbik.

As well, Veteran Mexican warrior Rafael Marquez is still set to return to the ring on June 4, part of the Sebastian Zbik vs Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. card at Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Chávez Jr. (42-0-1, 30 KOs), of Culiacan, México, is the son of Mexico’s greatest fighter Julio César Chávez. Chávez, 25, took up the “family business” in 2003, winning a four-round decision in his professional debut. Eight years later, the reigning WBC Silver middleweight champion and superior gate attraction is poised to make his own mark in the boxing world. He took a major step toward that goal by enlisting legendary trainer Freddie Roach to take him to the next level. Their first fight together was a gigantic success, winning the vacant WBC silver middleweight with a dominant 12-round unanimous decision over top-10 contender John Duddy (29-1, 18 KOs), on last June at the Alamodome in San Antonio. He successfully defended that title on January 29, winning a unanimous decision over Billy Lyell. Since 2009, Chávez Jr., won 10-round unanimous decisions over Luciano Cuello and Troy Rowland and stopped Jason LeHoullier in the first round. Making those five victories even more impressive is the fact that Chávez’s opponents had a combined record 120-12-1 when he defeated them.

Last 5 Fights: Chavez has been quite dominant in all his recent fights, but they were all against relatively low level fighters. This upcoming fight against Zbik will be the first time Chavez will fight for a belt and the first time he will fight against someone who is lingering at the top of the division.

Zbik (30-0, 10 KOs), of Schwerin, Germany, will be making his U.S. debut in his first title defense. The slick middleweight champion is trained by former World Boxing Organization (WBO) lightweight champion Artur Grigorian, whose eight-year title reign included 18 successful defenses.

Last 5 Fights: Zbik has had a few tough fights recently, including a split decision victory over Emanuele Della Rosa, but has remained victorious in all of them. None of his recent opponents are quite as versatile and talented as Chavez, so it will be interesting to see how he handles this upcoming fight.

Chavez Jr. vs. Zbik Prediction

Expect to see Zbik working his jab steadily throughout this fight and finding holes in Chavez’s defense. However, Chavez will work his way in and win a few rounds himself with some well-timed attacks. I see this as the type of fight that will be evenly scored by many accounts, but by fight’s end, the judges will score unanimously in favor of a bloody, beaten, but yet victorious Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.

Sebastian Zbik vs Julio Cesar Chavez Jr Fight Results

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. defeated Sebastian Zbik by majority decision on Saturday night to win the middleweight title, taking a major step toward establishing his own legacy while his famous father looked on.

Two judges scored the fight for Chavez, 115-113 and 116-112, while the third had at it a draw.

Chavez Jr. was behind early against Zbik (30-1), who was the quicker fighter and landed more punches early. But Chavez kept coming forward, countering with hard body shots that seemed to slow his German opponent down.

The fighters, apparently believing the fight could go either way, came out firing in the final round. Chavez seemed to outwork his foe to punctuate a solid performance.
