Kermit Cintron vs. Paul Williams

Kermit Cintron vs. Paul Williams

Light Middleweight

Saturday May 8 2010

The Home Depot Center Carson, CA, USA

HBO Boxing

Former two-time WBO Welterweight Champion, one time WBO Middleweight champion, Paul Williams will fight in a scheduled 12-round battle against the ever-dangerous Kermit Cintron in a May 8, 2010 on an HBO “World Championship Boxing” headliner dubbed as the “Weight is Over.” Williams vs. Cintron bout will also include an exciting undercard matchup, that will take place at the outdoor Home Depot Center in Carson, California where Williams enjoyed his first World Welterweight Championship victory.

This promises to be a battle as Cintron is an extremely hard puncher who isn’t afraid to stand toe to toe with anyone (as seen in his fight with Margarito) and Williams is extremely rangy and powerful, utilizing a very busy style in which he can remain aggressive while using his reach to his advantage. Williams and Cintron were previously scheduled to fight in 2007 but Cintron pulled out due to injury.

Williams (38-1, 27 KO) has fought four of his last seven bouts in Southern California, defeating Antonio Margarito in a 2007 bout at Home Depot. Then Williams avenged his only loss in 39 bouts against Carlos Quintana by knocking him out in the first round of their WBO Welterweight Title rematch back in June 2008. Williams won two fights last year at 160, dominating Winky Wright in April and winning a very close decision against Sergio Martinez in December.

The only two blemishes on Puerto Rico's Cintron fight record are two knockouts at the hands of Antonio Margarito and with a draw against Martinez. Both men were beaten by Williams previously. Cintron (32-2-1, 28 KO) had a more up-and-down year, starting poorly with a gift draw against Martinez in February, but then upsetting Alfredo Angulo in May, and capping the year with an easy win over Juliano Ramos in Puerto Rico on October 24.

Paul “The Punisher” Williams

  • 38-1 (27 KO’s)

Kermit “El Asesino” Cintron

  • 32-2-1 (28 KO’s)
  • Carolina, Puerto Rico
  • Height: 5’11”
  • Reach: 74”

Bet Kermit Cintron vs. Paul Williams Boxing Today!

Paul Williams won by a technical decision over Kermit Cintron “The Killer” after that Cintron tumbled out of the ring in round four.

Williams had landed a straight left and Cintron attempted a counter right when both fighters got tangled with one another, lost their balance and tumbled to the canvas. Williams was the better of the two, since the only thing he hit was canvas. Cintron fell between the ropes with his back and head hitting ringside production equipment before finally rolling onto the tennis stadium floor.
