The latest UFC fight will be held in Newark, New Jersey's Prudential Center on March 27, 2010. This is the first UFC event in New Jersey since 2007. The last one was the UFC 78 Ultimate Fighting Championship. The belt will be the first of two titles on the line at the event as current welterweight champ Georges St-Pierre and top contender Dan Hardy meet in the evening's main event.
St. Pierre vs. Hardy will guaranteed to be one of the best for this 2010. These two competitors are one the most UFC's biggest challengers in this seasons.
A winner of six straight matches, St. Pierre is considered to be among the top pound-for-pound fighters in the world, holding wins over notables including BJ Penn, Jon Fitch, Matt Hughes and Alves.
UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre has been unstoppable since regaining the title in 2008, and he aims on extending his reign and his six fight winning streak against British bomber Dan “The Outlaw” Hardy, who is unbeaten in the UFC and fresh off wins over Marcus Davis and Mike Swick.
Dan Hardy is known for his ability to play pyschological games with his opponent and a rapidly improving all-around game, the flashy Brit has won 12 of his last 13 matches and has a career mark of 23-6.
Ben Saunders vs Jake Ellenberger
The name Jake Ellenberger may still be unknown for some people, but this fighter has a 22-5 MMA record and already two fights at just 24-years old. This Team Quest fighter has a bright future by starting his MMA career with 12 straight wins. Mr Ellenberger is considered a well-rounded mixed martial arts fighter. Jake strong spots are his wrestling ability and explosive starts. He also has 14 of his 22 wins coming by either KO or TKO.
At UFC Fight Night 19, he made his UFC debut against top welterweight and current WEC welterweight champion, Carlos Condit. Most people anticipated an easy night for Condit, but it was not to be. Jake clearly dominated the first round and came close to finishing the fight three times in the opening round.
On the other hand Ben Saunders defeated Dan Barrera at The Ultimate Fighter Finale by unanimous decision.
In his second career UFC fight, Saunders defeated UFC newcomer Ryan Thomas by armbar in the second round.
In his third career UFC fight he fought Brandon Wolff, defeating him in the first round with knees from the Thai Clinch, by landing 42 knees to his opponent. This resulted in Wolff's face being a bloody and swollen mess. After the bout many comparisons were made between him and Anderson Silva, who is also known for his Thai clinch prowess.
Saunders defeated Marcus Davis on November 21, 2009, via knee strikes at the first round at UFC 106 making him the first man to knockout Marcus Davis.
Saunders also is expected to face off against top ten welterweight Jake Ellenberger at UFC 111 in March.
Jon Fitch vs Thiago Alves
After beginning his career in smaller organizations such as the Ironheart Crown, Absolute Fighting Championships and Kingof the Cage, Alves, with a record of 7-3, received an invitation to make his UFC debut at Ultimate Figth Night 2 against fellow UFC newcomer Spencer Fisher. The fight would take place on Alves' twenty-second birthday.
Despite having early success in the bout, especially on the ground, Alves fell victim to a dramatic trinagle choke late in the second round.
Thiago returned to action on the undercard of UFC 56, defeating previously-undefeated Ansar Chalangov by TKO due to punches just 2:25 into the first round.
And now Thaigo Alves is scheduled to face Jon Fitch at UFC 107 in a rematch of their bout at UFC Ultimate Fight Night 5 which Alves lost via TKO. However Alves suffered a knee injury, forcing him to withdraw from the fight. Alves will now face Fitch on March 27, 2010 at UFC 111.
Fitch began his career at Light-Heavyweight with a record of four wins, two losses, and one No Contest. Understanding that the sport required cross training in the martial arts, Fitch soon left for San Jose California to train with the American Kickboxing Academy and went undefeated until his loss to UFC welterweight title-holder, Georges St-Pierre.
Now as you all know, Fitch is going to face Thiago Alves at the at UFC 111 on March 27.
