Kimi Raikkonen won the inaugural Turkish Grand Prix in 2005 and Felipe Massa is the most successful driver in the short history of the circuit, winning three consecutive races between 2006 and 2008.
The Turkish Grand Prix is often exciting, partly because of the high speed challenge it offers, the track is a challenge for the drivers and mistakes are far more common here than at other venues. The most challenging corner on the track is the multi-apex turn eight where drivers experience a load of 5G. Engines are put through a lot of strain and top speed is a critical factor which is partly why Ferrari has done well in the past. Luckily for the teams the long straights mean there is a lot of air cooling the components in the hot weather.

Ecclestone has subsequently provided Turkish racing fans with assurances that the Turkish Grand Prix will remain part of the Formula One World Championship until at least 2015.
