Antonio Tarver Vs Nagy Aguilera Odds
Antonio Tarver To Make Heavyweight Debut On Oct. 15th, Vs. Nagy Aguilera. Former light heavyweight champion Antonio Tarver, who announced his intention to move up to heavyweight in June, is following though on his plan. Antonio Tarver will now, face 24-year-old Nagy Aguilera in a scheduled ten-rounder on October 15th (venue, somewhere in the U.S, to be determined), Tarver will be going in with a young, decent heavyweight. Tarver, who will turn 42 in November, will be fighting for the first time in 17 months and is coming off back-to-back clear decision losses to Chad Dawson in light heavyweight title bouts.
Tarver, who is 6-foot-2, has fought his entire career in the 175-pound light heavyweight division. Even as a star amateur, who received a 1996 Olympic bronze medal, Tarver fought as a light heavyweight, where the weight limit was 178 pounds.
Aguilera, 16-4(11) is no monster big guy at 6’3” and approx 230-pounds, but he is big enough, he is young and hungry, and he will surely look at this fight against a man so much smaller as a huge opportunity. The Dominican Republic heavyweight has caused a big shock before, too. Back in December of 2009, Aguilera destroyed former WBC heavyweight champ Oleg Maskaev in a single round. Okay, Maskaev had seen better days; but maybe Tarver has too. There is no guarantee that the man who starred alongside Sylvester Stallone on the silver screen will win this fight.
Tarver vs Aguilera Fight Results
Antonio Tarver (28-6, 19 KO’s) is giving himself an A+ for his one-sided 10 round unanimous decision over Nagy Aguilera (16-5, 11 KO’s) last Friday night at the Buffalo Run Casino, in Miami, Oklahoma. Tarver started off slow in the 1st round but quickly threw off the 17-month ring rust and began to punish the slower Aguilera with straight left hands and mean uppercuts to the head. Tarver looked like Tarver of old as the fight progressed into the last half of the fight when he was really punishing Aguilera with combinations and flurries.
Aguilera fought perhaps the dumbest fight that you could, as he retreated to the ropes in every round like a glorified sparring partner. Tarver took advantage of this by punishing Aguilera with shots. Tarver ended up winning the fight by the scores of 98-92, 98-92 and 98-92.
