2012 Spanish Grand Prix Betting Information
When: Sat, May 13, 2012
Where: Circuit de Catalunya
Spanish Grand Prix at Circuit De Catalunya - Formula 1 is returning to Europe for the first time this season for the Spanish Grand Prix at Circuit de Catalunya near Barcelona and the Spanish GP is one of the best in the GP calendar. The Spanish Grand Prix is one of the oldest races in the Formula One World Championship. First raced in 1913, the Spanish Grand Prix has been held at venues throughout Spain during its history, and is presently hosted by Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona. In 1991 Spanish F-1 Grand Prix moved to a new home just 12 miles north of Barcelona, the Circuit de Catalunya at Montmelo and is used for both pre- and in-season training by many teams. In 1991 Ayrton Senna and Nigel Mansell were fighting tooth and nail for second place, racing side by side down the front straight in a memorable image. It was Mansell who eventually triumphed, winning the inaugural Catalunya race, while Senna finished fifth.
The Barcelona Circuit is well-known for its wide variety of corners, from sweeping, high-speed corners to a tight, low-speed final sector, to one of the longest Formula One straights "a kilometer" or more than half a mile long. While there is really only one overtaking corner on the Circuit, "Elf Corner".
The 2.8-mile track requires excellent aerodynamic downforce and efficiency, engine power, and both good tire grip and mechanical grip. The circuit layout tests every aspect of a cars performance, aero, mechanical and engine. It is very often used for testing during the winter, so Formula One teams know the circuit quite well.
Circuit de Catalunya - The track is 4.65 kilometers long with a total of 16 corners, 9 right turns and 7 left turns. Minimum track width is 11 meters. The direction is clockwise. The engines will spend each lap of the race at about 57 percent full throttle, so top end speeds are important. This is most crucially on the start and finish straight which will see the drivers flat out for almost 1,000 meters. Overtaking is not easy, therefore a good qualifying performance is vital. Statistically, it is more important to start from pole position in Barcelona than it is at other circuits because many Spanish Grand Prix have been won from the pole.

2011 Spanish Grand Prix Results
Red Bull's Formula One world champion Sebastian Vettel took his fourth win in five races on Sunday in a Spanish Grand Prix that shed its reputation for predictable processions. McLaren's Lewis Hamilton finished second, just 0.6 seconds behind, after harrying the 23-year-old German over the closing laps in a far closer finale to a race many had forecast would be a duel between the dominant Red Bulls.
