Acey deucey seems to have originated in the Middle East and is now popular all over the world. Acey deucey (also spelled "acey deucy" or "acey ducey") is one of the most popular backgammon variants. It is a faster game and in some ways more exciting than regular backgammon. The main distinguishing feature is the roll of 1 and 2 (acey deucey) which gives the player who rolls it extra turns.

Acey Deucey
Object of the Game

In this online board game each player must move his/her pieces according to the numbers shown on the throw of two dice.

The player moves his/her pieces from his opponent's inner table along the playing board, across to his/her outer table.

Finally, into his/her own inner table, then bear off his/her pieces before their opponent.

Set up

This online board game is a lot like Backgammon. However, unlike traditional backgammon, the checkers in Acey Deucey are not placed on the board at the beginning of the game.

The players roll for first turn as usual, but the high player rolls both his/her dice for his/her first roll. Following the initial roll, players can choose to place checkers on the board or to move those checkers already in play.

The checkers are moved from the top right (opponent's inner table) to the left (opponent's outer table) then across the board (player's outer table) and to the right (player's inner table).

Movement of the checkers

After the first roll, players take turns rolling both dice. The numbers rolled are each counted separately. So, if a player rolls a 6 and a 4, he/she has the option of moving one checker 10 or a checker 6 and another 4.

How to Roll dice

The "Roll" button is located in the lower right corner of the screen.

Click the "Roll" button to roll the dice.

Auto roll

The "Auto Roll" button is located in the lower right corner of the screen below the "Roll" button.

Click the "Auto Roll" button, and the dice will roll automatically when it is your turn.

How to play Acey Deucey

During gameplay, a player tries to establish blocked points, which are points where two or more of his/her checkers have landed.

An opponent's checker cannot land on a blocked point.

However, if only one of a player's checkers occupy a point (called a blot), the opponent may land his/her checker on that point and remove the player's checker to the bar, which is the area separating the inner and outer tables on the board. When this occurs, the player must move his/her checker from the bar on the next turn before moving any other checkers.

Once all 15 of a player's checkers enter his/her inner table, the player can begin bearing off, which is simply moving the checkers off the board. However, in acey deucey a player can only bear off a checker by an exact roll of the dice.

For example: If a player rolls a 5-3, he/she can only bear off a checker from the 5 spot or the 3 spot. If there are no checkers on the 3 spot, then the player can only bear off the checker on the 5 spot and he/she loses the 3 roll. If there are no checkers on either spot, then the player loses that turn.

How to Move Checkers

All of the legal moves are highlighted with a yellow line.

Click and drag your checkers to the highlighted spot of your choice.

Undo Button

The "undo" button is located below your inner table (lower right corner below the table).

You may undo only the first move of a regular roll.

You may undo up to the third move of a doubles roll.

To undo a move, click the "undo" button.

Scoring

The winner of the game is the one who removes all of his/her checkers from the board first.

The Score

Your remaining pips will be displayed below your character on the left side of the screen.

What is unique about Acey Deucey?

The most unique feature is the inclusion of the "acey deucey" roll. If a player rolls a 1 and a 2, he/she not only gets to play those rolls, but also chooses any double of his/her choice and plays that number four times. Plus, that lucky player also gets to roll again.

If the player cannot make the first two moves (the one and the two), he/she does not get the double or the extra roll.

If the player can play the 1 and the 2, but he/she cannot complete all of the double moves, then that player does not get the extra roll.

The Clock

The player that creates the table chooses the amount of time per game. For example: If 10 minutes was chosen, then each player has a total of 10 minutes to finish the game.

Your clock will only run when it is your turn to play, and it stops when you complete your turn. If you run out of time, then you lose the game and your wager, if playing in a real money game.
