The Brooklyn, Mich., racetrack has partnered with Heluva Good! to host the Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event on Sunday, June 13. Sour Cream Dips 400 is at the halfway point of determining who will make the Chase for the Sprint Cup.

Heluva Good! has been heavily involved in NASCAR in recent years and will sponsor two NASCAR Sprint Cup Series events in 2010. Formerly known as the Banquet 400 in 2007, then sponsored by LifeLock 400 in 2008 and 2009, before changing to the Heluva Good in 2010!

Michigan International Speedway made its NASCAR Grand National debut on June 15, 1969. Cale Yarborough gave the field the “Mercury Blues” by taking the checkered flag. The Michigan International Speedway is the speedway known for being shaped like a “D”. It runs on for two miles and has over 1,400 acres it spans across. It has a wider racing surface than most other tracks. Horsepower and handling will be key on this 2-mile track. The front stretch runs 3,600 feet on 12 degrees banking, the turns offer 18 inches of banking, while there’s 5 degrees of banking on the backstretch that runs 2,242 feet. This ranks lower than many of the traditional NASCAR tracks today. Because this track is wide, the Sour Cream Dips 400 race should prove to be a fast paced event. The corners are sweeping and the straightaways are long giving the racers the ability to break easier and hit top speeds of 200 MPH.

In 2009, Mark Martin won his fourth race of the season and a cool million bucks at the LifeLock 400 at Michigan International Speedway. Martin took the lead with 13 laps to go and pulled away on a restart with three laps remaining to win a race he and Jimmie Johnson had dominated. Martin saved just enough gas to hang on for his fourth victory of the season and the 38th of his Cup career. Martin was able to coast to the finish line almost three seconds ahead of runner-up Jeff Gordon.

Denny Hamlin's No. 11 Toyota was so good Sunday at Michigan International Speedway, he didn't mind giving his rivals one last shot at trying to beat him.

"I understand this is show business," Hamlin said after a caution for debris erased his nine-second lead in the Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips 400. "I didn't see any debris. We typically get (debris yellows) every single week. What can you do?"

Hamlin did what he had for most of 400 miles — pull away at will on the 2-mile oval.

The Joe Gibbs Racing driver notched his second consecutive Sprint Cup victory by leading a race-high 123 of 200 laps. He was unchallenged after the fourth and final yellow bunched the field for a shootout with 14 laps left.

After breezing to a 1.246-second win over Kasey Kahne, Hamlin had no misgivings even if he thought NASCAR officials might have tried to engineer a closer finish by throwing a yellow flag for what seemed to him like a piece of rubber on the backstretch.
