Marquez, 37, had been thinking of moving up to the light welterweight division and challenging World Boxing Association light welterweight champion Amir Khan, but Marquez has put that fight off for now so that he can defend his title against one of the most exciting fighters in the lightweight division in 30-year-old Australian Katsidis.

This fight represents fighters at two different stages of their careers, one looking to cement what will be a Hall of Fame career, the other looking to put a multiple time champion in multiple divisions away and send him possibly into retirement. Either way this will be a career defining match for both fighters.

Marquez is coming off of an impressive 12 round unanimous decision against Juan Diaz on July 31st. It was the second time that Marquez had beaten Diaz. This time, however, Diaz was less aggressive and looked to be pacing himself so that he wouldn’t get knocked out again. It worked but Diaz still ended up losing. The 37-year-old “Dinamita” is far from finished, and considering that his resume over the last three years includes wins over the likes of Marco Antonio “Barreta” Barrera, Juan “Baby Bull” Diaz (twice) and Joel “Cepillo” Casamayor, there’s no question there’s plenty of gas left in this legendary fighter’s tank.

A two-time, and current, holder of the interim WBO lightweight crown, the 30-year-old is currently sporting a four-fight winning streak which includes a stoppage of Jesus “Matador” Chavez, a stirring win over Vicente Escobedo, and a three-round blitz of 31-0 Kevin Mitchell. On November 27, he will be facing his biggest challenge ever.

WBA/WBO lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez (52-5-1, 38 Kos) stopped Michael Katsidis (27-3, 22 KOs)  in the ninth round of their bout to retain his titles at the MGM Grand, Las Vegas.

In the first two round Marquez wins but in the third round Katsidis knocks him out  with left hook and the round goes to Katsidis.

Marquez wins the fourth, fifth rounds and the six was a closed round with great exchanges of punches to both boxers .

In seventh round Marquez gets best again of late exchange and wins the round. But he was outworked by Katsidis in round eight.

In round nine katsidis delivers hard to the body of Marquez. But Marquez love to answer that with ten straight punches and katsidis is backing up.
