In what promises to be an early Fight of The Year candidate. A 12 round bout for the Ring Magazine World Lightweight Championship, is presented by Golden Boy Promotions and will be televised live on HBO’s World Championship Boxing beginning at 10 pm ET / 7 pm PT.
Marquez is truly one of the sport's best, having beaten the likes of Joel Casamayor and Marco Antonio Barrera and battling Manny Pacquiao to a draw.
Marquez moved up to lightweight last September and beat Casamayor by knockout. Marquez is getting better with age and he's tough as nails. He's a smart boxer and he's finally getting the big fights he deserves.
Meanwhile, Diaz is one of the best lightweights around. He has beaten some of the division's best and his only loss was a close one to Nate Campbell.
Diaz, a 25-year old natural born American started his boxing career in June 2000 when he was only 16, winning a first-round victory with a TKO over Rafael Ortiz. Three years later he achieved the WBC youth lightweight title with a 6-round TKO against Joel Perez. After another 3 years Diaz defended his title once again for the fifth time over Fernando Angulo of Ecuador.

At Round #8, Diaz' right eye was already clotting with blood, while Marquez has already a contusion on the right eye as well. Marquez KO'd Diaz at 2:40 of Round 9.
