Note: Anthony’s Cross is by Indian Charlie, who is also the sire of early Kentucky Derby favorite Uncle Mo, but Anthony’s Cross has a more favorable pedigree for the 1 ¼-mile distance than the juvenile champion due to his female family.
Anthony’s Cross is the second foal out of the unraced Screening, a daughter of Kentucky Derby and Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) winner Unbridled whose first offspring, Fugitive Angel, reeled off three consecutive stakes wins at two turns last year before concluding 2010 with a third in the grassy Mrs Revere S. (G2).
Broke his maiden in his fourth try, at Churchill Downs in November. He then shipped to Santa Anita where he finished a distant ninth in the Sham Stakes (G3) and then won the Robert Lewis Stakes (G2) on Februry 12. Should go next in the Santa Anita Derby (G1) on April 9.
