Bernard Hopkins vs. Enrique Ornelas

Bernard Hopkins vs. Enrique Ornelas

Bernard Hopkins vs. Enrique Ornelas

  • Date: Wednesday, Dec 2 6:00 pm
  • Where: Liacouras Center, Philadelphia, PA

Bernard Hopkins (49-5-1, 32 KO) will continue his remarkable career, in his hometown on Wednesday, December 2, when "The Executioner," who will be fighting in Philly for the first time since 2003 and will face hard-hitting Enrique Ornelas at the Liacouras Center at Temple University. It will be Hopkins' first time fighting in Philadelphia since March of 2003, when he knocked out Morrade Hakkar in eight rounds at The Spectrum. The Executioner knows a thing or two about winning big in Philadelphia. In his outstanding 21-year professional boxing career, Hopkins has fought 10 times in his hometown and has never lost. Something else to remember, Hopkins hasn't fought since a dominant decision win in October 2008 over middleweight champ Kelly Pavlik.

Ornelas (29-5, 19KOs) is a tough middleweight/super middleweight. He will press the action but is undersized and never fought at light heavyweight. Most of Ornelas' defeats have been close decisions to guys like Marco Antonio Rubio, Bronco McKart and Sam Soliman.

Hopkins will be rooting for old rival Roy Jones Jr. to win on the same day, as Jones faces Danny Green in Sydney, Australia. Should both come out of December 2 victorious, they've agreed and signed off on a rematch in the first quarter of 2010. Jones beat Hopkins via unanimous decision way back in 1993. The 12-round light heavyweight bout will be televised live on VERSUS, the fastest growing sports cable network in the country, at 8 p.m. ET.

Hopkins vs Ornelas Fight Results

At 44, Bernard Hopkins dominated enough to prove he has a few fights left in his celebrated career.

A rematch with Roy Jones Jr. probably isn't one of them.

Hopkins defeated Enrique Ornelas by unanimous decision in a light heavyweight bout, sweeping the scorecards to the delight of his hometown fans in his homecoming fight Wednesday night.

"This is what happens when you take care of your body when you're young in the brutal sport," Hopkins said. "I invested in myself like you invest in money in the bank."

Hopkins, one of the sport's all-time great middleweights, counted on depositing some major bucks in the bank after a proposed rematch with Jones in March in Las Vegas. But the long-awaited bout is unlikely to happen after Jones was stopped by Australian Danny Green in the first round on Wednesday.
