The Honda Classic isn't a major championship but it could easily fool someone into thinking it is. Its field is littered with elite players and the host course, PGA National, played as the hardest non-major in relation to par last year. You need every shot in the bag to succeed here so the focus for the Honda Classic is on guys who are well-rounded and playing strong golf right now.

PGA Honda Classic Golf History
The Honda Classic PGA Tour golf tournament has been won by some renowned golfers over the years, including Jack Nicklaus in 1977 who also won it the following year. It was first played in 1972 when it was known as Jackie Gleason's Inverrary Classic, before getting Honda on board as a sponsor in 1982. In 2007 the Honda Classic moved to the Champions Course at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, which is where the tournament currently remains. In the early days of the Honda Classic, the host course was the East Course at the Inverrary Golf and Country Club in Lauderhill, and included "Inverrary" as part of the tournament's name from 1972 through 1983. Other host courses in Honda Classic history include TPC Eagle Trace in Coral Springs, Weston Hills Golf and Country Club in Fort Lauderdale, TPC Heron Bay in Coral Springs, and the Country Club at Mirasol in Palm Beach Gardens.

Walking off the second tee Sunday, Rory Sabbatini veered left and stopped, peering toward a patch of 3-foot grass and the lake behind it. The South African was wise to brace himself for any menace on the PGA National course. While no reptile sightings were confirmed, Sabbatini's five-stroke lead shrank to one in the space of seven holes, and a halt in play because of lightning delayed his march toward victory. He weathered the weather, turned back a late challenge from Y.E. Yang and shot an even-par 70 for a one-stroke win. He sealed the title with a 2-foot par putt on No. 18 for a 72-hole total of 9-under 271. The resident of Fort Worth, earned his sixth PGA Tour victory and his first since the 2009 Byron Nelson Championship.

Camilo Villegas was checking his phone constantly on the driving range, barely bothering to hit any balls and instead seeking updates on how his brother was doing at a Nationwide Tour event in their native Colombia. As Villegas showed all week, practice can be overrated. Villegas shot a final-round 68 to win the Honda Classic by five shots Sunday over Anthony Kim (FSY), his third PGA Tour victory and a perfect way to cap a week that began with one celebration and ended with another. He finished at 13-under 267, the lowest 72-hole score since the Honda moved to PGA National in 2007, four shots better than Y.E. Yang's (FSY) winning total a year ago. And Villegas made it look easy most of the way, too, capping his day with a 20-footer for birdie, then raising both hands skyward.
"I've just had good vibes in me all week," said Villegas, who climbed to No. 12 in the world rankings.
At the 2009 Honda Classic, Yang Yong-Eun, who won his first tour title at the Honda Classic golf tournament, defeating top player John Rollins by a single shot.
In 2008, Ernie Els was the Honda Classic winner, with a stunning 16th PGA tour victory. Labelled as his "PGA tour comeback", Els won the golf tournament by defeating Luke Donald by one stroke.
