Richmond International Raceway is the site of one of the most exciting races on the NASCAR schedule and is a pivotal midseason race. Drivers looking to earn valuable Cup points must contend with Richmond’s unique 3/4 - mile layout, leading to a lot of banging and side-by-side racing.
The race is currently held as a Saturday night event in early May. For several years prior, it was held as a daytime race event, the weekend following the Daytona 500 in February. Lights were installed at the facility in 1991, but the spring race remained during the day, but consistent cold weather and even a snow delay in 1989, eventually forced track officials to re-schedule the race to take place later in the spring. The race was permanently moved from Sunday afternoon to Saturday night, but continued to be moved around between May and June, until finally sticking with the current early May race date by 1999.
Since adopting the Crown Royal Presents "Your Name Here" contest concept, the Jim Stewart 400 was won by Jimmie Johnson in the first Car of Tomorrow victory in 2007, the Dan Lowry 400 was won by Clint Bowyer in 2008, and the Russ Friedman 400 was won by Kyle Busch in 2009 and 2010. What driver will roll with the win at the Crown Royal 400? Bet on one of NASCAR’s favorite races at one of the most popular tracks.
