Week 1 college Football Betting Picks
Now it's time for the College betting fanatics to turn their focus to Week 1. The action begins on Thursday with North Carolina State at South Carolina on ESPN and the late game Saturday Night with #19 Illinois vs #7 Missouri.
North Carolina State at South Carolina Picks
8:00 PM ET, August 28, 2008
Williams-Brice Stadium , Columbia , SC
Spread: South Carolina -11.5
My Pick: South Carolina has alot to prove this year and with Junior QB Chris Smelley they should have a good chance get the year started off on the right foot. Smelley got alot of snaps last year so the transition should not be a factor, overall they have a well rounded team and keep the defense guessing on both the ground and in the air. NC State will be relying on Harrison Beck to step up this year and with a 93.4 QB rating from last year the Wolf Pack should be all smiles, but they need to develop a run game as it was lacking last year.
Their receiving corp is also suspect which is what represents the 11.5 point spread. The Gamecocks are always tough at home and in the opener i think they deliver. Take the Gamecocks.
Saturday's ESPN T.V schedule features Virginia Tech traveling to East Carolina.
Also don't miss Tulsa at UAB, TCU at New Mexico and the list of action packed games goes on.
Week 1 will finish with a Saturday Night Football rumble with #19 Illinois at #7 Missouri at the Edward Jones Dome.
Illinois vs. Missouri Picks
8:30 PM ET, August 30, 2008
Edward Jones Dome , St. Louis , MO
Spread: Missouri -8.5
My Pick: This should be an impressive week 1 matchup as both teams are ranked in the top 25, but don't read too much into that as it is preseason rankings which don't mean anything. Illinois QB Juice Williams (I love that name) is back to lead the Fighting Illini and improve on his 119.2 rating from last year. He will be looking to WR Arrelious Benn to get it done in the air and Rashard Mendenhall on the ground to improve his 17 TD's from last year. Overall I think that Illinois' success will depend on spreading out the ball and the defense stepping up, easier said than done against Missouri. One thing that makes this pick difficult to make is that the Tigers had a ton of Seniors leave which opens the door for new talent which as of yet needs to prove itself. Simply because I don't trust new experience until I see, I like Illinois plus the points. The Tigers won't be playing at home so they don't have that advantage of the home stadium.
Week 1 promises to deliver more dazzling College Football excitement, so don't miss any of the action and be sure to check out all our NCAA props available for every game.
