Sprint Cup Betting History

The roots of this race go all the way back to 1958, when it was known as the Richmond 200. Speedy Thompson took that first running with a not-so-speedy average speed of 57 mph and he earned a whopping $800 for his efforts. Of course things have changed since then and this year's winner will get about $250,000 and the average speed will be well over 100 mph on the ¾ mile short track.

The Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup was implemented in 2004 to involve more drivers in the championship hunt and intensify fan interest and drama during the season's stretch run. The Chase for the Sprint Cup begins on Sunday, September 25th with the Sylvania 300 at New Hampshire International Speedway, and concludes in November with the Ford 400.

Bet Richmond International Raceway

In the past Richmond International Raceway has also been known as Richmond Fairgrounds Raceway, Virginia State Fairgrounds, Atlantic Rural Exposition Fairgrounds, and Atlantic Rural Fairgrounds. But through all of these name changes one thing has remained the same; this raceway has a lot to offer.

Richmond International Raceway is always one of the most thrilling venues on the schedule and being the last race before the Chase for the Sprint Cup. Formerly known as Strawberry Hill, this tri-oval track is a unique 3/4-mile layout produces tremendous side-by-side racing, yet drivers obtain high enough speeds to give it a superspeedway feel. Richmond International Speedway is considered "America's Premier Short Track" and is one of the few tracks to hold races under the lights. Richmond International Raceway also host the Crown Royal 400earlier in the season.

2010 Air Guard 400 Results

Denny Hamlin knows all about leading laps at Richmond International Raceway. Now he knows about leading NASCAR's Chase for the Sprint Cup.Saturday night, Hamlin led 251 of 400 laps on his way to winning the Air Guard 400. Hamlin needed to weather raindrops, which placed the race under caution from laps 227-241, and a late-race challenge by Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Kyle Busch, who started 32nd and closed to Hamlin's rear bumper with 30 laps to go.

But Hamlin had enough to hold him off for his series-high sixth victory of the season. That means with points being re-set for the final 10 races, Hamlin has 60 bonus points, 10 more than Jimmie Johnson (five wins), who will start the Chase second in the standings.

2009 Chevy Rock & Roll 400 Results

Denny Hamlin won the Chevy Rock & Roll 400 at Richmond International Raceway, beating Kurt Busch to the checkered flag by 0.38 seconds. Jeff Gordon, Mark Martin and Kyle Busch round out the top 5 in the running order. Denny Hamlin pushed the #11 Toyota to an average speed of 96.601 mph and led 299 of the race's 400 laps, taking home $238,075. The race ran 3:06:20 and saw 12 lead changes. Due to 10 yellow flags, the race spent 56 laps under caution.
