Phoenix International Raceway hosts the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and Nationwide Series races this weekend for the second to last race in the NASCAR season. The Chase for the Sprint Cup is coming down to the wire, and the excitement is heating up in the desert. The Kobalt Tools 500 presented by Pennzoil at Phoenix International Raceway, formally known as the Checker Auto Parts 500, may prove to be the race that decides this year’s cup champion.
After this week, only the Ford 400 at Homestead Miami Speedway remains in The Chase for the Sprint Cup, which means you’ll be betting on the top drivers in NASCAR making a last ditch effort to grab points and keep themselves in the running for the Sprint Cup. No more playing it safe or hoping for a break. It has now become a do or die effort to be proclaimed the greatest racing team in NASCAR.
Jimmie Johnson has dominated this race for the past three years, and that's really no surprise since he's also won the last four Sprint Cup championships. But you can't count out Dale Earnhardt Jr., who won this race in '03 and '04, and because of the unique tri-oval configuration of Phoenix International Raceway there's always the chance of a surprise winner.
BookMaker Racebook has posted Kobalt Tools 500 Driver odds and future odds on all of the major races throughout the Nascar season so whether you are looking to place a bet on your favorite Nascar driver, on one race, or whether you are looking to bet on your favorite Nascar driver or Nascar team throughout the season then BookMaker.eu will have all the NASCAR odds and action that you can handle from now until the end of the 2011 season. Carl Edwards won two-in-a-row over the weekend at Phoenix International Raceway as Denny Hamlin struggled to hang on to the points lead. Even though Edwards has won two consecutive Nationwide races, it was a 70-race winless streak he snapped in the Sprint Cup Series. Edwards led five times for a total of 93 laps Sunday including the final 46. Similar to the other NASCAR events over the weekend at Phoenix, the race ended after a long green flag run rather than multiple late race cautions which has become the norm. Fuel mileage began to come into play as drivers ran 72 laps uninterrupted until the checkered flag. Edwards picked up the lead for the final 46 laps when points leader Denny Hamlin surrendered his lead to pit for gas.
Coming out of the pits 19th on the track, Hamlin was only able to pedal up to a 12th place finish losing ground in the standings with just one more race left in the season. “Trust me, I’d rather race next week knowing I need to go out there and I need to win the race than knowing I need to finish 15th,” Hamlin said. “That’s the mentality I’m going to have next week, is to win the race. Full-court press will be on. It will be one of those things where you’ll probably see me as aggressive as I’ve been all year.

Score four for Jimmie Johnson at Phoenix International Raceway, and a four score awaits at Homestead-Miami Speedway. With his fourth victory at the 1-mile oval and fourth win in the Chase for the Sprint Cup, a record fourth consecutive championship in NASCAR's premier series could be next for the driver of the No. 48 Chevrolet. After delivering a self-described "butt-kicking" in Sunday's Checker O'Reilly Auto Parts 500 by leading 238 of 312 laps, Johnson built his lead to 108 points over Hendrick Motorsports teammate Mark Martin heading into the season finale.
Martin, the only other title-eligible driver, has outscored Johnson by more than 108 points only nine times in 265 head-to-head starts, but the most recent was Nov. 8 at Texas Motor Speedway, where Johnson lost 111 points after crashing early.
