Sprint Cup race at Dover International Speedway on May 15, 2011 will be named the “FedEx 400 benefiting Autism Speaks. - The northeast tour begins this weekend as all 3 major NASCAR series race on the one mile high banked concrete oval
of Dover, Delaware, otherwise known as the Monster Mile. Now know as the Autism Speaks 400, although it’s gone by many names over the past years, including the Best Buy 400 and the MBNA 400. It’s still 400 exciting laps around Dover
International Speedway.
The race track was built starting in 1966 and opened for business in 1969. Dover Downs International speedway was the tracks original name until it was changed to Dover International Speedway in February 2002. It obtains its name the
Monster Mile because it is only a mile long and its surface is concrete which makes it harder on cars.
The track is also home to the Dover 400 in September, the second race of The Chase for the Sprint Cup. Dover is unique in that it’s exactly 1-mile, with 24 degree bankins in the turns and 9 degree banking in the straights. The
frontstretch and backstretch are both 1076 feet, meaning it’s not a short track or a superspeedway. Dover International Speedway is rock hard concrete, rather than asphalt, making it even more challenging. It is a brutal test on each
teams car and a demanding trial to the driver.
Dover is not usually exciting side by side racing but if you like wrecks you will like this race. To pass many drivers will have to move other drivers out of there way with their front bumper. This can cause some heated exchanged between
drivers and might even see some post race fist to cuffs.
Gamblers who follow trends should keep in mind that 12 different drivers have won the Autism Speaks 400 in the last 12 races at the Monster Mile while the only driver to have won this race twice since 1996 is Jeff Gordon.
2010 Autism Speaks 400 Race Results and winner
Busch led 131 of 400 laps and was close to the front the entire race. This is the second win of the season for Busch and his second win in three races. Kyle Busch took advantage of a rare mistake by four-time Cup Series champion Jimmie
Johnson to pull away for an easy win Sunday in the Autism Speaks 400 at Dover International Speedway.
Both drivers, waged quite a battle on the high-banked, 1-mile track, the lead see-sawing back and forth between the two each time the race resumed following five caution periods and assorted green-flag stops.
But at the later part of the race, Johnson was flagged for speeding while exiting the pits during a round of green-flag stops on Lap 363 and forced to return to pit road to serve a pass-through penalty, the battle was effectively finished.
