2004 - 2005 AFC DIVISIONAL PLAYOFFS Results and Information

The matchup between Colts QB Peyton Manning and Patriots coach Bill Belichick makes this a great football game. Coach Belichick is going to have his hands full setting up packages for pre-snap reads to stymie the hot Manning. He'll have a better understanding of what to take advantage of because he's faced the Patriots twice in the past year.

The loss of cornerback Ty Law for the season puts the Pats in a world of hurt because he gave them the ability to make big defensive plays. Last season's AFC Championship Game showcased Law as he played one of the best games I've ever seen a cornerback play. Law broke on routes, disrupted receivers and simply dominated Manning in that game.

Law's absence will put even more of a spotlight on the matchup between Colts receiver Brandon Stokley and the Patriots' Troy Brown. Brown normally plays receiver, but has been moonlighting as a nickel cornerback. I tip my cap to Brown for his understanding of zone concepts and his individual responsibilities, but he's set up in an obvious mismatch. Stokley would be the No. 2 receiver on most teams and will instead play against a converted part-time cornerback. That spells trouble for the Pats.
