Pre-season games generally tip-off in October with the NBA

But some say this will be the last opportunity for Shaq to win
a NBA Championship. Age is starting to catch up with him and
retiring
his number is a given for the big fellow. The Cleveland Cavs
and the Indianapolis Pacers will be a good teams to place bet
on this year. Both of these teams will make it to the playoffs
this year.
In the Western Conference, NBA Champions San Antonio Spurs and
Dallas Mavericks. The Spurs will be the team to beat this year
in the West, with recent addition of Finley and Van Excel.
Although Phil Jackson has been reunited with Kobe Bryant in
Los Angeles, the Lakers remain short in talent and are in the
middle of the pack at 35/1 to win. If Lakers did so, this
would give Jackson his tenth championship. I believe Kobe and
Phil Jackson will make the playoffs, but that is as far as
they will go and do not forget about the Phoenix Suns, they
should get it right this year.
The two teams with the longest odds to emerge as NBA champs
next season are the Atlanta Hawks, who own the second pick in
this years NBA draft and the Charlotte Bobcats, who will be
entering only their second season in the league.

When the Charlotte Hornets moved to New Orleans for the
2002-03 season, the city and the NBA agreed to create a new
team for
the 2004-05 season. Several ownership groups, including one
led by former Boston Celtics star Larry Bird, made bids for
the team.
In the end, a group led by BET millionaire Robert L. Johnson
won out. Johnson is one of the first prominent
African-American owners
in U.S. sports. The "Bobcats" name originated with him. The
team will play in the Eastern Conference's Southeastern
division,
along with the Miami Heat, Orlando Magic, Atlanta Hawks, and
Washington Wizards. The Bobcats held their expansion draft on
Tuesday, Jun 22, 2004, picking up such seasoned players as
Peja Drobnjak and relative newcomers such as Theron Smith.
They also had the second pick in the 2004 NBA Draft, which
they used to select Emeka Okafor.
