Australian OpenAustralian Tennis Open 2008
January 14 - 27 at Melbourne Park

The Australian Open tennis tournament is one of the four Grand Slam tennis tournaments. It is held annually in Melbourne, Australia. It is chronologically the first of the world's four major tournaments which together constitute the Grand Slam.

Traditionally, accomplishing a slam is to win all four majors in a calendar year; recently tennis fans have adopted the shorthand of referring to each of the four parts of the Slamas a slam in itself.

The Australian Open, which was originally known as the Australian Tennis Championship, first was held at the Warehouseman's Cricket Ground in St Kilda Road, Melbourne, in 1905. The organisation, Tennis Australia, originally put together the Australian Championship. The location of the Australian Open changed constantly throughout the next forty five years. The champions of the Australian Open in the 80’s include European players in the men's event: Ivan Lendl, Mats Wilander and Stefan Edberg.

In 1996 Flinders Park was remodelled, expanded and renamed Melbourne Park. In 2000 the centre court was christened The Rod Laver Arena in honour of Australia's tennis hero. The Australian Open is growing to be more and more a definitive event where tennis players have the opportunity to prove to the world that they are the best. May 25th - June 8th, 2008
Paris, France

The history of the French Open, known more properly as the Tournoi de Roland-Garros begins in 1891 as a tournament to decide the French National Championship. It was opened to international competition in 1925, and in 1928 a new stadium was built at Porte d’ Auteuil. The stadium was named Stade Roland Garros after a French tennis player and war hero, and this is where the tournament is still held today. The French Open was also the first tennis Grand Slam event to allow both professional and amateurs to compete, and is the second leg of the tennis world’s Grand Slam.

The only Grand Slam event played on clay. This adds to the excitement of the event, throwing an air of uncertainty into the tournament, as many of the world’s top tennis players, such as Pete Sampras, have had difficulty adjusting to the surface. Although Sampras won every other Grand Slam tournament, he never took home a win from the French Open. More French Open Tennis Betting Information
