Location: Toyota Center, Houston, Texas
Broadcast: Pay-Per-View at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT
UFC 136 is headlined by a pair of title fights, as lightweight champion Frankie Edgar (13-1-1 MMA, 8-1-1 UFC) takes on Gray Maynard III (10-0-1 MMA, 8-0-1 UFC) for the 3rd time and featherweight champ Jose Aldo (19-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) will defend his crown against the always-dangerous Kenny Florian (15-5 MMA, 12-4 UFC) in the main event at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas on Saturday, Oct. 8th. Bet Frankie Edgar Vs. Gray Maynard III
Frankie Edgar vs. Gray Maynard III
Edgar claimed the lightweight title over BJ Penn in April of 2010. Frankie Edgar has 2 KO's and 3 submissions on his resume while Maynard has just 2 knockouts and amazingly, zero subs on his undefeated record. The last time either fighter had a KO was in 2007. While Edgar has worn the belt for only a short time, Maynard has continued to take on the best in the division with wins over Kenny Florian, Nate Diaz, Roger Huerta, Jim Miller and of course Edgar himself.
Maynard, is also responsible for both of the hiccups on Edgar's record and also Maynard, defeated Edgar by unanimous decision three years ago at UFC Fight Night 13. In their last fight, though, Maynard failed to take Edgar's belt when their title bout ended in a draw. Maynard has proven time and again that he is the better wrestler, but if he wants to leave with the title this time he is going to need to find a way to deal with Edgar's superior speed, footwork, and cardio. The Las Vegas-based fighter believed he had done enough to win the UFC 125 rematch but, admitted to running low on gas in later rounds and promises retribution in Houston.
Edgar knows his days of being a UFC champion may be numbered and will be in the best shape of his life. The same came be said for Maynard, who appears much larger than the champion. They key to this grudge match is who can set the tone. Maynard, who let Edgar battled back to a draw, won't make the same mistake twice. While this fight is unpredictable, expect similar excitement as when these two last met at UFC 125.
Lightweight Champion Frankie Edgar. "The Answer" is the -130 favorite and Maynard, the "The Bully" stands as the slight underdog at +100 heading into this UFC 136 showdown. View UFC 136 Odds
Bet Jose Aldo Vs. Kenny Florian Featherweight Championship
Reigning champion Jose Aldo looks to continue his incredible six-year unbeaten streak and total divisional dominance. Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo, "Scarface" is the -270 favorite and Kenny "KenFlo" Florian stands as the considerable underdog at +210.
Jose Aldo vs. Kenny Florian
This will mark the fourth time Aldo will be putting his 145-pound title on the line and the second time he will do so inside the Octagon. Aldo has taken out a bundle of top 145-pound fighters, but has never faced anyone like Florian.
Jose Aldo, is a Brazilian fighter and the current UFC featherweight champion. After making a name for himself on the Brazilian MMA scene, Aldo signed for the WEC in 2008 and went on a massacre, defeating the likes of Jonathan Brookins, Alexandre Nogueira and Cub Swanson to earn a title shot.
Aldo fought Mike Brown for the belt at WEC 44, winning by second round TKO to become the champion. He then defended the title twice against Urijah Faber and Manny Gamburyan before the WEC was merged into the UFC. He was last seen in April, earning a unanimous decision over Mark Hominick to keep his UFC belt.
Kenny Florian, will fight for just the second time at featherweight after moving down from a five-year stint at lightweight. He began his career in the promotion at middleweight on Season 1 of "The Ultimate Fighter" before moving to welterweight. Florian then fought as a welterweight a couple of times before making the drop to the lightweight decision. He defeated many fighters in the 155lb division, like Din Thomas, Clay Guida, Joe Lauzon, Roger Huerta, Joe Stevenson and Takanori Gomi.
This will be the third title fight of Florian's career after he came short in two opportunities at lightweight. Florian, fought for the lightweight belt twice, losing to Sean Sherk and B.J. Penn on both occasions. He dropped down to featherweight this year, making him the first ever UFC fighter to have fought in four different weight divisions, and is currently coming off his featherweight debut in June, KenFlo has already taken out one of the division's absolute best, Diego Nunes. Now Florian, is gunning for the pound-for-pound contender. This promises to be a very interesting fight, as both fighters are very talented and well rounded.
Also on Tap for UFC 136, is a Middleweight bout between Chael Sonnen (26-10-1 MMA, 5-3 UFC) vs. Brian Stann (11-3 MMA, 5-1 UFC). Two of the best 185-pound fighters in the world scrap for a shot UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva. As well, UFC 136 will feature a Lightweight bout between Melvin Guillard (28-8-2 MMA, 10-4 UFC) vs. Joe Lauzon (20-6 MMA, 7-3 UFC).
