Jermain Taylor vs. Jeff Lacy Boxing odds
When: Nov-15 - 10:00:00 PM
Where: Vanderbilt University Memorial Gymnasium in Nashville, Tennessee.
Jeff Lacy's big retirement lasted all of a few days, as the proposed fight between the Tampa-based fighter and his 2000 U.S. Olympic teammate is back on for November 15. Lacy has been given a slight raise in pay, though I'd guess not exactly what he'd been hoping for. Jermain Taylor didn't spend too much time thinking about Jeff Lacy's retirement because he knew Lacy's claim of retirement was just a ploy to get more money. On Monday, Lacy got a new contract, one that made him happy and puts Taylor vs. Lacy back on the calendar for November. The bout will take place at 168 pounds as Taylor and Lacy will collide in a WBC super middleweight eliminator on Saturday night, November 15, at Vanderbilt University Memorial Gymnasium in Nashville, Tennessee. The fight will be televised by HBO and is being promoted by Lou DiBella, Golden Boy and Prize Fight Promotions. Taylor (27-2-1, 17 KO's) became the undisputed and undefeated middleweight champion of the world on July 16, 2005 when he beat Bernard Hopkins at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Taylor defended his championship four times, including a Hopkins rematch (December 3, 2005), and was undefeated in his first 27 professional fights before back-to-back losses to present champ Kelly Pavlik.
As for Lacy, though he was badly beaten by Calzaghe, he maintains he is still hungry and is a far better fighter than he appeared to be in his sole career defeat.
Taylor vs. Lacy Results
Jamain Taylor won by unanimous decision. Taylor, the former undisputed middleweight champion who had lost his last two fights and hadn't fought in nearly nine months, came out swinging Saturday night in a fight titled "All or Nothing."
Taylor (28-2-1, 17 KOs) nailed the "All" part of it as he punished his longtime friend and former Olympic teammate Jeff Lacy for 12 rounds.
Taylor landed nearly half of the 442 punches he threw, including a steady stream of powerful left jabs in winning nearly every round of the super middleweight eliminator at Memorial Gymnasium at Vanderbilt University in Nashville. Lacy threw nearly the same amount of punches but landed only 17% of them.
"I knew coming into this fight I had to win and look good winning," said Taylor, who had lost two consecutive middleweight title fights to Kelly Pavlik. "I feel good about my performance, having not fought since February.
"My jab was working real good tonight. I should've used it more, but that was part of the game plan, keep the jab in his face all night and follow with the right."
Taylor was never in trouble during the fight, even during the controversial fifth round when a right hand from Lacy glanced off Taylor's shoulder and landed on the back of his head.
Taylor went down, but it appeared to be more of a slip, and the referee agreed, ruling that it was not a knockdown.
Lacy (23-2, 17 KOs) wasn't happy but did not argue the call.
