The Stanley Cup is the final series of postseason games of the National Hockey League. The Stanley Cup is won by winning four of seven games played between the champions of the Western and Eastern Conferences. The Stanley Cup is the trophy awarded to the team who wins the Finals. That team's members are inscribed on the cup itself, and the team keeps the cup until another team wins the finals, at the earliest the following year. The Stanley Cup is also known as "the Cup", "“the Holy Grail" or ironically, "Lord Stanley's Mug". The trophy itself was donated in 1892 by the Governor General of Canada, Lord Stanley, to the top-ranked amateur hockey team in Canada. With various league expansions and consolidations, the Stanley Cup has become the oldest sports trophy in North America and the highest ice hockey honor in the world.

The Stanley Cup Finals games are played at the respective home arenas of the two final teams competing for the championship. The team with the better regular season record receives the home ice advantage in the Stanley Cup Finals, and hosts games 1, 2, 5, and 7, whereas the team without that advantage hosts games 3, 4, and 6.

Betting on the Stanley Cup

Many people are unaware that they can place bets on the NHL online, which includes what sportsbooks call a ‘future bet’ on which team will win the NHL Stanley Cup. Online NHL Sports betting sites have odds listed for every single team in the NHL for winning the Stanley Cup for the 2010/2011 season. You can sign up for an account, deposit your money, and place wagers on who you think will win the Cup. Of course, the favorites to win the Stanley Cup will pay out less money than the long shots.

The odds listed on each sportsbook for their future bets on the Stanley Cup may come in different formats, but they all mean the same thing. For an example, for the Red Wings to win the Cup the odds may be listed as 5 to 1, 5/1, 5.00, or +500. All of these formats mean the same thing – If you were to place $10 on the Red Wings to win the Stanley Cup your potential payout is $60 or $50 in profit ($10 x 5).

Get ready for the excitement of the Stanley Cup Finals! Bet the intense betting action and watch the fierce rivalry on the ice as the NHL's two elite teams face off in hopes of bringing home Lord Stanley's Cup. The Stanley Cup Finals offer some of the most competitive and heart-pounding hockey around and excitement for the 2011 Stanley Cup Finals is high for hockey fans worldwide. Stanley Cup 2009 Reults
PENGUINS WIN SERIES, 4-3

Evgeni Malkin has been unstoppable ever since the Stanley Cup Playoffs began nearly two months ago.

It was in the way he hit, in the way he inspired teammates by working the corners and in the way he scored with such regularity that it became ridiculously routine. It was quite a turnaround for a player who appeared overwhelmed by his first trip to the Final last spring, when he had just 1 goal and 2 assists in Pittsburgh's six-game loss to the Detroit Red Wings.

Malkin proved to be a force when the Penguins needed him most this spring. He led all scorers in the Stanley Cup Final with eight points (2 goals, 6 assists) in seven games and paced all scorers with 36 points (14 goals, 22 assists) in 24 playoff games. It's the most points by any player since Wayne Gretzky had 40 for the Los Angeles Kings in the spring of 1993.

For his efforts, Malkin was awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy as the playoff MVP Friday night after his Penguins defeated the Detroit Red Wings 2-1 in Game 7 at Joe Louis Arena. NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman made the announcement prior to handing the Stanley Cup to Pens captain Sidney Crosby.

Stanley Cup 2007 Results

Ducks 2007 Stanley Cup WinnersThe Anaheim Ducks were born on the silver screen and came of age by capturing the shiniest of silver cups. They dropped the mighty from their name, but not their game and skated off with the first Stanley Cup championship in California history. The 14-year-old Ducks captured the NHL title with a 6-2 victory over the Ottawa Senators on Wednesday night, ending the series in five games in front of the home folks again.

Scott Niedermayer finally earned the MVP award many thought he deserved four years ago. His biggest thrill came when he handed the Cup off to Rob, a big reason he came to Anaheim before last season.  Niedermayer brought his brother Rob and teammates Teemu Selanne and Chris Pronger along for the ride for their first Stanley Cup. Rob Niedermayer is one of three Ducks left from the losing side in 2003 when Scott and the New Jersey Devils captured their third title in Game 7.

For the first time, the Stanley Cup can enjoy an NHL western home, and the Ducks’ victory came at the expense of Canada. The cherished trophy was born in Ottawa, but no team north of the border has won it since Montreal in 1993.
