Pavlik Vs. Hopkins Boxing Odds
Middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik, who can not seem to find a big-name opponent to face him at the 160 Pound weight Class, will do what any motivated boxer would do, move up in class. Pavlik, 26, will move up 10 pounds and face former light heavyweight champion Bernard Hopkins at 170 pounds. This Fight will take place Oct. 18 on HBO PPV at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J. Pavlik (34-0, 30 KOs) has been searching for a worthwhile opponent since blowing Gary Lockett away inside three rounds in June and has been repeatedly linked in a bout against Joe Calzaghe.
Kelly Pavlik "The Ghost" is considered by most to be one of the best pound-for-pound boxers in the world and is the current "The Ring", WBC and WBO middleweight champion. Pavlik holds a flawless 34-0-0 record with 30 knockouts. To put that into perspective, 88.2% of Pavlik's fights have ended in knockout victories for the 26 year old fighter. Even more impressive is the fact that over a total of 34 fights, Pavlik has only fought a total of 127 rounds. This means that on average, Pavlik's fights last less than 4 rounds each. Pavlik captured the WBC and WBO middleweight titles when he defeated Jermain Taylor.
Hopkins (48-5-1, 32 KOs) formerly held all four middleweight titles before losing to Jermain Taylor in a split decision in July of 2005. Hopkins then lost the rematch to Taylor in December of 2005 by unanimous decision. After unanimous decision wins over Antonio Tarver and Ronald Wright, Hopkins lost a split decision to Joe Calzaghe at 173 pounds on April 19 of this year.
Pavlik has opened betting as a strong -350 favorite. Bernard Hopkins, on the other hand, is a +275 underdog.
Vegas is clearly expecting that this fight will go the distance, as the over/under is currently set at 11 1/2 rounds. The over is currently set at -205, while the under is set at +165. This means that if you wanted to bet the under, then you would need to wager $205 in order to win $100 back. If you wanted to wager on a shorter fight taking place, then a $100 wager would result in a total profit of $165.
Kelly Pavlik vs. Bernard Hopkins Results
Hopkins defeats Pavlik
Bernard Hopkins showed himself to be one of boxing's all-time greats Saturday night at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J., taking Kelly Pavlik to school in a 12-round nontitle fight in which he beat up and embarrassed the middleweight champion with skills honed in a magnificent 20-year career. After thoroughly confusing and dominating previously unbeaten Pavlik (34-1), Hopkins (49-5-1) walked to the edge of the ring and stared at some of his detractors in the media. The message was obvious. Don't ever doubt me again, even at 43 years old. "I'm tired" of having to prove himself, Hopkins said. "What do I have to do?" The one-sided victory could set a rematch with Roy Jones Jr. early next year, provided Hopkins' longtime antagonist beats Joe Calzaghe next month in a fight in New York City. Calzaghe scored a controversial decision over Hopkins in April. Jones beat Hopkins in a 12-round decision in 1993.
