Jean Pascal vs. Bernard Hopkins Odds
Former Two-Division World Champion Bernard Hopkins (51-5-1, 32 KOs) will try to seize yet another opportunity to claim light heavyweight supremacy when he faces off against the new light heavyweight king Jean Pascal (26-1, 16 knockouts) for Pascal’s WBC light heavyweight title. The fight will take place on December 18, 2010 at the Pepsi Coliseum in Quebec City, Canada. This will give Pascal, 27, home field advantage. The Haitian-born champion is a resident of Laval, Quebec, and is one of the handful of transplanted fighters who have been enthusiastically adopted by the rabid Quebec fans.
Pascal Vs. Hopkins
Pascal, scored a major upset when he clearly won an 11-round technical decision against Chad Dawson on Aug. 14 in Montreal to retain his alphabet title and win the vacant Ring magazine title, which recognizes the lineal champion of a division.
Bernard Hopkins has made a career of proving naysayers wrong.
Hopkins, knocked out Felix Trinidad to become the undisputed middleweight champion in 2001 in a major upset. He did it again when he dominated heavily favored Antonio Tarver to win the light heavyweight title in 2006. And he did it yet again when he thrashed then-middleweight champ Kelly Pavlik, the big favorite, in a 2008 nontitle bout.
Hopkins, who made a record 20 middleweight title defenses, won the lineal light heavyweight title against Tarver and lost it on a split decision to Joe Calzaghe in 2008. Hopkins has won three straight fights since losing to Calzaghe by disputed, split-decision in April, 2008, with his most recent victory being April's lopsided, unanimous decision over 41-year-old, Roy Jones (54-7, 40 KOs), which avenged a May, 1993 setback to Jones. Regaining the light heavyweight Title is important to Hopkins.
Hopkins' title run included wins over nine world champions, with seven of those being knockouts of titlists Felix Trinidad, Oscar De La Hoya, Robert Allen, Simon Brown, Glenn Johnson, John David Jackson and Carl Daniels.
Now, Hopkins is hoping to do it one more time when he meets newly crowned light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal. This will be the third time in his illustrious, 22-year career that "The Executioner" will fight off of American soil. In 1992, he went to Paris to fight Anibal Miranda, and in 1994 he fought Segundo Mercado in Ecuador, the first of their two fights for the vacant middleweight title bout.
The 12-round world championship bout will be televised live on SHOWTIME at 10 p.m. ET. The event is co-promoted by Group Yvon Michel Inc. and Golden Boy Promotions and sponsored by Casino Montreal and Quebec Tourism.
